Guest guest
Brrr! Yes! I hate the cold days. I live in So Cal, so I do have to deal with cold a lot less than most. But fall is on it's way here. It's been raining and cold this week and my hips are killing me. Gonna have to give in and turn on the heater pretty soon. If it helps any, have you applied for the utility discount for medical purposes? Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we might as well dance. From: sayokom@... I am off to see the psychologist Greetings everyone- I just got notification that I am on my way to see the psychologist for applying for disability. I am not nervous or anything, I am just a little irritated with the way the system moves at a snail's pace. But I am answering all their questions and jumping through the hoops. I have been having strong attacks of malaise because of the methotrexate injections and the RA is really starting to re-focus on my knees and of course my fingers. It has been raining today, so everything has been flairing. Question- Does anyone else get cold easily with the RA? I am a rather insulated type of gal, but when I get cold, I have to take a shower almost scalding to get warmed up! I have never been sensitive to the cold until lately. Guest guest
I dunno Ms , but anybody that doesn't get depressed with this wacky disease is most likely crazy. Jump ( or crawl ) through their hoops. The good news is- they have to back pay you from when you applied. The bad news is that it can take a good while. If you really can't work, then don't let anything stop you from an appointment or paperwork deadline. If you miss a deadline, they can make you restart the process. I have noticed that I get sick in ways that seem different than before the MTX. Just be careful and avoid people when they are sick is all I can think of to do- if you can. in SC just got notification that I am on my way to see the psychologist for applying for disability. Guest guest
I have basically sworn off church until spring time! Practically every, single kid in the church is coughing, having runny noses, etc. We also have a sign on our door that says if you have a cold, please come and visit when you are feeling better. I have already made arrangments for my evaluation. The thing with the RA it is attacking the hands, so typing becomes painful. Then lately, it is killing my knees. I am actually taking some Prednisone and Tramadol to get the swelling and pain under control. I do work from home, but like today I had to call my manager when a malaise episode hit and I had to go lay down. That lasted for 2 hours...normally they last 3-5 hours. I have to admit that RA is a crazy disease to deal with...we have to take chemotherapy drugs to help cope with the disease, we endure endless hours of explaining the differences between RA and OA, and we jump a billion hoops to get treatments, and the list goes on. I truly believe that if you can live and cope with RA, you can face just about anything else that life throws at you! /Colorado
Guest guest
Utilty discount for medical purposes? Hmm... I don't think we have that here in Colorado, but I can definitely check with our company to find out. My knees have been just killing me this week, so the Prednisone and Tramadol was brought out to function. I am thinking that depending on our tax return, I might buy a hot tub to soak my body. /Colorado
Guest guest
Hi .  Good luck applying for your disability.  Yes, I can't take the cold anymore. That is why I moved from Cape Cod to Florida. When it gets colder here, I wear socks to bed, flannel p.j.'s etc. I also have 2 blankets on my bed and a comforter if I need it. I have taken hot showers to warm up. Since the RA, my body does not handle cold at all. Another " gift " from this ugly disease.  Stay warm and cozy.  Hugs,  Barbara From: Yokom <sayokom@...> Subject: [ ] Well... Guest guest
YES!I have that cold thing going on as well. I haven't asked the doc about it yet but yes I also have to take a scalding shower to get warm as well. I also have the reynauds but this seems to be an entire body thing and not just the reynauds flaring.I thought I was the only one to get this since I hadn't seen anyone else mention it. If you talk to your doc about it please let me know what he/she says and I will do the same. The other day I was under several heavy blankets and couldn't get warm. Finally gave up and got in the shower. Not one other person in the house was even chilly. My guess is that the RA messes with our circulation but that is strictly my opinion. Guest guest
Amen. I know if I can get my RA under control at half the time I could handle just about anything. Guest guest
, What is the process for SSI. I've been terrified to even look it up. It's hard to admit at 49 yrs of age that everything I've done is over. I've worked all my life and had a great career and this just feels awful. Good luck and let me know how this process goes as I won't have much choice in a short while. Guest guest
You will not regret getting a hot tub. I've had mine for a few years now and have used it almost every night. I live in Michigan and it is wonderful to soak in outside in the middle of winter. Michigan Re: [ ] Well... I am off to see the psychologist Utilty discount for medical purposes? Hmm... Guest guest
Hi...I am a lurker more than anything else. I happened to see this thread and thought I'd jump in.....rather, dip my toe in .... I am in GA, and while I can not get a discount off of my utilities per se (unless things have changed since I last checked...and since this has come up, I am going to call and find out!), I can write off the bills from my taxes...at least I was able to do that about five years or so ago when I checked last. I chose not to do so as it was not going to amount to enough to matter. Check with your Utility provider. If they tell you they do not provide a discount, then check with your CPA, the IRS, or the person who prepares your Taxes (if you use someone at H & R Block or the like, I suggest contacting the IRS and make sure you get it in writing to keep with your paperwork should you write it off on your taxes if you are able...JUST IN CASE ..). Allow me to add, when I was doing the checking, it was not for my RA, but for my Asthma. In any case, it should not matter if it is for Asthma, RA, or any other chronic illness. If you need heat, air, etc, you need it. If your MD writes a letter stating you need that particular utility, and you can get a discount or you can write it off on your taxes as a medical expense, all the better for you . Good luck! > > Utilty discount for medical purposes? Hmm...
