Guest guest
ashley, my daughter has been on zonegran before and now on the diet with no side effects before or on. it has negligable carb/sugar so that shouldnt cause any problems. from what i have read it has relatively low long term side effects and it works great for many, many seizure types. we have used it with great success. now klonopin has caused some effects with the diet. i know it has some carb content so we give her 1/2 dose of a .5 tab at meal times and it doesnt lower her ketones. giving her the dose at any time other than meal was giving us a problem with ketones dropping. she takes that dose 5 x a day but we are hoping to start weaning soon.. what side effects are you experiencing? tasha mom to isabela 23 months > >Reply-To: ketogenic >To: ketogenic >Subject: Zonegran >Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2002 11:39:24 -0700 > >Does anyone have any info about how Zonegran works with the diet? Guest guest
Ok Chris. Will do that. He is on 463 calories a meal (about 1800 a day) so they're calculated for that, but I suppose its easier to recalculate calories than ratio! Jane Re: Zonegran Jane, We are on a 3:1 ratio, and I would love some variety. If it's really no problem to fax, the fax at my husband's office is: (410)641-6616. If you would put it to the attention of ph McShea, or even just re: ketogenic diet, they all know about my daughter, so it would go straight to him. THANKS!! Guest guest
Thanks Jane!!! I'm salivating (for Allie) for 463 calories a meal! We're on 290-ish a meal + 1 120 cal snack. Me not cheating for her is as hard as me not cheating on a diet. I would sooooooo love to slip her a whole cup full of macadamia nuts (she wouldn't touch a macadamia pre-diet!)!! She'd be in heaven!! Guest guest
Jen was on it and I had her on a very low dose to start the diet so I did not see serious side effects. It is very individual though. Any drug can cause severe side effects. We went to a neuro who told us that he had lots of patients on high doses of zonegran with no side effects. I honestly do not believe that. It is probably one of the better tolerated drugs but it really depends on your child. Same with Keppra. I have heard some who do very well but others who have terrible reactions. The diet is much better tolerated. Far fewer side effects and those can usually be resolved with fine tuning. Guest guest
also do not eat these nuts pre diet and now is soooooooooooo addicted. I asked Jane at Hopkins if we could make a snack of the nuts and 150 calorie snack at 3:1 ratio gives 17 gms of nuts, which is about 22 pieces./ He also gets 60 gms of Jello with this snack. The day I gave him all these nuts , he just went crazy he was soooooooooooooooooo happy. Another snack was a chocolate pudding or mousse that had cocoa and cream and Know jello and He LOVES THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just ideas!!!!
