- your post made me remember when Jay was about 1 yr old and we thought

all the 'strange' little things he did were either cute or funny...things

change...btw - Jay used to slap the tv too...

, I remember that! When everywhere I turned all the things we thought

were signs of genius were now just a horrible reminder that things were not

EVER going to be OK... I felt like such an idiot.

Even as the anti-stimming nazi, I will admit that if I can tell the stim is

a comfort in a stressful time I do try to let him have that. I figure that

trying to disrupt a stim at that time will only do more harm than good.

Yeah. I can remember telling people who knew autism about some cute little

Putter trait that I thought was his alone.

Sigh.

It was always some totally autistic thing that wasn't Putter's alone at all.

Still, his particular cuteness is indeed his alone.

Well, this one is a hard one.....I've seen doing some very crazy

things over time....

Okay, I'm guessing the craziest thing he has done is jump in a fountain at a

park (when it wasn't even warm or hot!) and the other day care children

followed him!

I was stuck at the park with 3 kids under 6 soaking wet in cold clothes!

pretty funny.

Actually Andy does something similar to this too. He leans into the

washing machine (it's a front loader) and when it spins ,he puts his

head into the door bit.

I'd have to say that chewing on thumbtacks was way up there. The talking on

the phone thing is kind of different too. She'll say hello and goodbye but

the funny part is the conversation between is always babble - but always the

same babble.

In the basement, with the dryer running, leaning at 90 degrees from the

waist with the crown of his head against the dryer door.

I think that's the strangest; at least it's the one that pops into mind...

toilet water trying to " get a drink " . i think that was just last year when she

was 7!

Well, I suppose ' most " unusual " stim is also his most frequent

stim...beating his chest with one hand, flipping a piece of

string/shredded paper, and yelling " EEEEEE!!! " while running back and

forth...hard to watch, and even harder to imitate...makes me dizzy.

Gee, she'd do great with . He'll walk around with pencil leads,

tacks, tape, the metal off the end of the pencil, staples, coins, chains,

paperclips, paper, tissue, string, etc. Most of it he chews on, but he

rarely ever swallows it. You just find all of these chewed up weird things

all over the house and behind the furniture!

By the way, is my smeller! He sniffs everything, started around age

5. The most embarrassing time was when he would smell chairs after people

had gotten up from them!

, This is hysterical. One of the most involved rituals I have

ever heard of...You have to write this down and use it as an addendum

to any and all correspondence you have with future examiners (like

the psych on July 18th.) If he's not autistic, then he's OCD and

maybe both. These are exactly the kind of things we observe/go along

with on a daily basis to keep the peace that a parent of an NT kid

could NEVER fathom, huh?Leggs

Tell me about it! He's started licking again, but not with the involved ritual

he used to have, but I'm pretty sure it's abnormal for a four year old to lick

the TV,or the car, or his shoes, or the chair, or..........

This morning I had a dog for a son! Most of the morning Mark was

acting just like one. He started eating an apple and for no reason

he put it on the floor would eat it like a dog would, then he would

run around panting like a dog. It was funny. When I tried to pick

the apple up he would throw it back on the floor and start all over.

Then he would start jumping on me and panting again, tongue hanging

out and everything. Then he would jump off the furniture and start

all over again. I couldn't help but to laugh! The worst part--We

don't even have a dog!!

my daughter is very much into the licking thing too, she licks

everything, even after she sits somewhere, she stands up and licks

where she has just been sitting, if i kiss my 15month old on the

nose, she'll lick her hand and then lick her nose, where i just

kissed it.....she'll always take her hand first, then lick whatever

it is, drives me crazy---nancy :)-- In parenting_autism@y..., "

Ah, yes. would if he could, but he can't, so he wipes his nose with

his arm and licks his arm instead.

Oh yum!!

Yucky!!

Well, we all know what Ebony's favorite stim

is....smearing poopy! I hope she's over that by the

time she starts her period.....this is something that

I have really been thinking about lately. What in the

heck am I going to do if she has the early puberty and

starts smearing that? Like I don't have enough to

deal with now.
