Cute story, Betty. Sounds like fun.

I hope your husband will realize he needs to help you more.

Hi Betty.

I so enjoyed your post of teaching your husband to play cards.  I too grew up

in a family that played cards all the time.    I love to play any game!

With this ugly beast of a disease we have to learn different ways to spend our

time when we are sitting and resting.  We become very creative.  I am sure

your husband will see now how much you are off your feet, and when you are up,

you are using your cane.  And he will see the pain you are trying to deal

with.  One thing I have learned is how to manage my life with RA.  I am a folk

art painter and used to sit for the whole day painting.  I can't do that

anymore, so I sit for a short time, get up and walk as I get so stiff too.  Who

knew stiffness was so painful.

It is good you rest, and that you can enjoy your time doing so playing cards.

It is good for your well being.  I play Solataire, and a game my grandfather

taught me as a child, called 13.  I also play games on my computer, which I so

enjoy.  The simple things makes us happy.

I hope you feel better soon, and keep on playing.  Nice for the both of you.

Hugs,

Barbara

Oh Betty honey- I sure wish I could take that pain away for you- you are such a

sweet and giving person to this list.

You are right. They don't get it. Don't ignore the possibility that it may be

because he loves you so much that he internally refuses to believe that you hurt

so bad. That was the case here with my Partner. It is nearly always easier to

take something happening to you than somebody that you love deeply.

Glad y'all have found a way to play together. Give Backgammon a whirl too. I

played  it with my ( now ex ) husband through all 3 home-birth labors. Got so

into it, I left the pain in the background for good chunks of time. On the last

kid, I almost had the baby on the couch because I wouldn't stop playing! (

Heck I was finally beating him for a change- wasn't gonna let THAT go- lol. )

Gentle hugs-- in SC

hi all,

i can't do much anymore, so i decided to teach my hubby how to play

some board games..... lol.... boy, what fun...i can sit long enough

to play a little while, then i have to get up and move around . you

know how it is to get stiff, it hurts so bad to move.... anyway,

you'd have to know how country he is , to understand how funny this

is. i taught him to play dominoes first. actually he is a very smart

man, just always went to work, and for his free time, .... more

work.

he learned to play dominoes pretty quick, he now gives me a pretty

good game. i used to let him win, now we have a good game. he still

calls the dominoes cards, and he " draws " them.

now i'm teaching him to play gin rummy. have any of you ever played ?

we grew up playing with our parents. tom has only has played rook.....

okay, ... he calls the face cards, " picture " cards. the hearts are

hearts, the diamonds, are diamonds. the clubs are " puppy dog toes " ,

the spades are the " shovel " cards. after awhile i gfinally got him to

undserstand the object of the game, he still says " dummy " , instead of

rummy when he goes out. .. lol..

i've had a ball playing with him, and i think he's finally beginning

to understand how bad i hurt sometimes. he's never sit down with me

that long, never seen me show my pain. i hope he will start helping me

around the house some. i still have to do everything, go shopping and

pay the bills.... i'm useing a cane now. i just don't think anyone

really knows how bad we hurt, unless its all of you here, on this

group.

thank you for being here, to you all...

betty
