Guest guest
You're quite welcome. One of the joys I have here is when questions come up just seeing what I can find. Seems like there should be better in many areas than there are, like better humidifiers. I did see some on Hudson's site that looked larger and more stable, saw some that are washable in the dishwasher, then those that come prefilled so full protection against bacteria. Just like cannula's, they give you one basic, and there are so many options and we all have different noses. Yes, if Chad makes a conserver that is 5:1, why are we getting 2:1 and 3:1? Because they're cheaper and already in the oxygen supplier's inventory. Hope you can avoid the germies. > > As I mentioned to Joyce, trying to catch up on posts. Guest guest
Kerry... sounds like you and I are dealing with the same situation w/ O2. Share with me your dislike of the liquid. Maybe there is something I don't know. I realize we all make our own decisions but tell me about yours against liquid. It's lighter weight and for that reason alone I'm thinking about it. I was told about the freezing and then that it takes about 30 min to 'unfreeze' (?). Guess that could be a real problem if I needed to get out of the house in 10 min. But maybe one doesn't wait that long to fill a tank if it's known ahead of time the need to go out. What's the "Chad" products...? I think I missed that. I did catch a web site as it whizzed by but it didn't seem to pertain to me. Hmmmmm. Maybe now it does. The small compressed tank doesn't fit well in my BOA unless I leave it open. Drat! Thanks. Guest guest
Kerry, You're not alone, I'm not a liquid lover either at least not now. I'm sending the big liquid resevoir and the Helios back where they came from. Not for me. Chad does make a really excellent line of conservers, I have two of them and I believe Peggy has one also. Hope your little guy is feeling better soon! I remember those days vividly. Now my guy is 22 and can clean up after himself if he's sick. Guest guest
Sher Chad has a couple of products we were looking at. http://www.chadtherapeutics.com/home.htm They specialize in oxygen conservers. You can go to products, oxygen conservers and find them. Their conserver device is 5:1 meaning it gives you five times the length of time you'd get without it. Most are 2:1, 3:1 and 4:1. They also have Oxymizers which are rather fancy cannulas. These allow you to get the equivalent of a higher rate of flow than what your equipment is set on. It saves liquid obviously if you're using it but on either a concentrator or liquid, it reduces the rate of flow and protects you nasally some. However, the prongs are quite large so a tradeoff. >> MB...please share with me your dislike of liquid....since I'm back on O2 I'm looking at the small 'wine bottle' cyl or liquid.> Is Chad just Chad.com? Guest guest
Sher, I do know one disadvantage you'll find. The mother ship has to be taken out to their truck to be refilled. It is very heavy. So with the stairs ?????? I kept it for about a week. Just didn't like the idea it could freeze on me. I am not one to mess with things that make big noises. when the lady showed me how to fill the small one it made such a noise and spewed out what looked like a steam. I think it scared her as much as it did me. I didn't even try it myself. Just not for me. Some really like it. Love and Prayers, Peggy Florida, ipf 6/04 Worry looks around. Guest guest
Sher, Happy to give you my opinion.... I always love to tell people what I think!! LOL I got a prescription from my doctor and called my local provider (Liberty Medical Systems). I had decided to try the liquid mainly using it for backup in case of a power outage. So they brought me a resevoir and a Helios and I've been working with it for the last month or so. The little Helios Plus is useless to me. It only goes up to 4 liters on pulse. I need 5-6 pulse or 4 continuous if i'm active. It also has to be positioned properly in order for it not to leak. If it falls on it's side you lose O2.It's just not practical if I'm out and about or even just in my car. The other thing is the evaporation factor. The O2 is evaporating from the resevoir and the Helios all the time. You can't fill the Helios in the morning and expect it to still be full in the afternoon when you're ready to use it. It will only be half to 3/4 full. So then you have to add more when you're ready to go out and hope it doesn't freeze up. Forget it, I can't be bothered fighting with it. I've got other things to do. My O2 should make my life easier not more complicated. So I'll call Liberty this week and have them bring me a big compressed backup tank. It will sit in my closet and be there if the power goes out. I'm fortunate in that I own a Chad "Total O2" system. My siblings chipped in last year and bought it for me. It's a concentrator that fills tanks for me also. I love the thing. I've got 4 D tanks with the little filler dohicky and as I use them I attach them to the concentrator which fills them up. There may come a time when I revisit the liquid O2 issue. Nothing is carved in stone and I would never tell someone not to use liquid. Everyone is different, has different needs, priorities and concerns. The concentrator and tanks work for me now. I'm happy with it. Love, Beth in NC age 48 Fibrotic NSIP 06/06 "For as long as I shall live, I will testify to Love." Bruce from Kerry As I mentioned to Joyce, trying to catch up on posts. Guest guest
Great Information and very valid points. The Helios Plus was absolutely the wrong portable for you. At your rate you'd need at least the Marathon if not the Companion. > > Sher, > Happy to give you my opinion.... I always love to tell people what I think!! Guest guest
MB... I haven't been "out" yet with my compressed cyl...m6? is that right?...The cyl. won't fit in my BOA unless it's left open and I don't want to do that. The conserver makes it too tall so I may have to buy a bigger BOA. There is a size bigger (taller). Don't want to buy more until I know what I'll use. I'm not impressed with what I've heard about liquid so didn't take it when suggested. I'll see if what I have works ok. Apria had Home Fill which I just loved but Lincare doesn't have them. Home Fill is not worth going back to Apria!! I go tomorrow for a 6mw with O2. Then the testing is complete and I will know my needs day and night. Oximeter was done last night. Yes, I'm anxious to get the final numbers. I'm surely more sob rather suddenly. Thanks for sharing w/ me. Love, Mama-Sher, age 69. UIP (IPF?) 3-06, OR.Don't fret about tomorrow, God is already there! Guest guest
Sher Lincare should have supplied you carriers.....even choices-shoulder, backpack, whatever. What is BOA? Check and see what brand and model conserver you have. We can see what rate it conserves and whether you need to push for better. > > MB... Guest guest
Sher I love liquid. Especially when at home. Its so nice to have the liquid reservoir not costing me any electricity and making no noise at all. For getting out, I like it because it's lighter, but I do recognize the advantages and disadvantages. So, I strongly favor it when at home and mildly favor it for portables, but could go either way on the portables. > > MB...please share with me your dislike of liquid....since I'm back on > O2 I'm looking at the small 'wine bottle' cyl or liquid. > Is Chad just Chad.com?
