Guest guest
Beck g-tube gets gunky and pussy looking at times, we just extra clean with soapy water and then use and AD ointment on her. When her tube gets this way its usually because she has pulled it in some way, or after she has had some seizures. Kath
Guest guest
....so it doesn't necessarily mean infection???? Guest guest
Not necessarily, just clean it extra for a few days, watch it and if it continues or looks worse then have it checked. Beck has had her G-tube since Jan of 2000 and she has had no problems with it other than was changed for a new one once. Kath
Guest guest
Alison, The site can get infected, particularly if there is any break down in the skin in and around the area. Clean the area well with warm saopy water, and pat dry. If the ooze continues, you may need a swab at the Drs to determine the bug responsible, then treat with antibiotics. However, I have had success in the past using alcohol or betadine (an iodine based solution )at the site for a few days..seems to 'knock off' the pesty bugs, and the site returns to normal. ne (in Australia). Guest guest
Alison, Connor's G site always looks pussy. We went to the dr the other day and I asked him if it was infected he told me no that we should put Mylanta around it. That is suppose to take away the acid that is coming up that causes that pussy look. Also, the DR lets me corterize the site when the granulation tissue gets to be to much with silvernitrate. Hope that helps some Mother of Connor --- The Boettchers wrote: > First it was granulation tissue and now it is a pusy > looking site. Guest guest
Ronan has had an infection around his tube a few times. Both times we had a culture done and a Staph infection was noted. I find that when it is an infection rather than just extra goopy tube I can smell a different odor. Also, Psuedomonas infections are common around tube sites , they smell funny too, almost a " sweet " smell. Takes a veterinarian to go " smelling " their kids tube site <grin>. Also, Ronan's gtube nurses have told me that they have noticed that when a child has a cold and has runny nose there seem to be more disharge around the tube. Perhaps all the mucous membranes are triggered into aciton, not just the ones in the nose. PS Each time we did treat Ronan's infection, once with oral meds and the second jtime with a cream for around the tube. He also has yeast infections quite regularly around his tube but we don't culture them I just treat with a powder when I see them.
