Didn't want it to get worse. She prescribed Diflucan, 2 pills, but I only needed to take one of them. Doctor told me that antibiotics could cause it, though I had not been on antibiotics for several years. hugs Eunice

Do you think fruit would be considered sugar that would cause the yeast to grow? I had an apple with peanut butter on it tonite but then wondered if that was going to make it worse. shirley
Guest guest
Yes Yeast infections are one of the first signs of Diabetes, also anyone even men can get them after taking the strong antibiotics. The Yogurt with the saying with live cultures I believe is the term. It comes in low fat and no sugar. It will help, possibly make it clear up..there are also things at the health food store that will take care of it..however I find them as expensive as a prescription. And it has never come back... not one tiny bit. I noticed that I started feeling sick and extra tired a few days ago and then I started having the WORST taste in my mouth all the time. I started getting yeast infections in places I didn't know was even possible... and now I am miserable it is so severe. I went to the doctor and he said that this problem comes from taking a strong antibiotic for 10 days and the Prednisone for 12 days back a few weeks ago when I had bronchitis. I have chronic candiditis and he said it is centralized throughout my body... even in my mouth, nose and esophagus. My throat is VERY sore. I knew my tongue was white but I had no idea what was going on. Today he put me on Diflucan and it was $122 for a 2 week supply. My insurance does not pay for medications so I had to fork out that amount. Anyway... he said that people with diabetes often have problems with yeast infections and if you overlook it and think it will go away by itself, it won't... it will just get worse and spread. So let me give you notice that you don't want it to spread and centralize in your body. I feel like I want to claw myself I am itching so bad. Why didn't I know that diabetics had problems with yeast? I don't remember it being talked about at Joslin and I don't remember it being discussed on here either. I guess I just missed that chapter. My doctor suggested after I am well to go on Pro-biotics that I get at the health food store to keep " good bacteria " in my body. He said yogurt would not be enough. He said to get the ones that are in the refrigerated section... not on a shelf... they are much better. Well, that's it. I am gonna go shower and put on powder and take it easy and try not to scratch. Shirley

Guest guest
you can eat lots of things but things that contain yeast will only make it worse. Flour without yeast is OK like pitta bread, fruits should be ok and veggies. Crackers don't have yeast ..it would not be for too long just till it is well. Guest guest
Actually, any type of starch or sugar can feed yeast. That's probably why your doc said no carbs. There are some things you can take, like probiotics, grapefruit seed extract, and eating garlic all are supposed to help with yeast. Many fruits can cause yeast to grow because of the sugar. There is a book called The Yeast Connection by Dr. Crook that is supposed to be excellent. Harvey has even mentioned it. Yeast can be a difficult thing to get completely rid of, esp in diabetics. Yeast is also a big problem with autism, I've learned more about it with my daughter, who had thrush the first 4 mos of her life, than I ever care to, lol. Guest guest
I have never heard of not having sugar substitutes fro it but every Dr is different. It can be in your blood stream and that is when they have to give drip of something but this is the extreme. Guest guest
Shirley - I also found that yeast infections are never listed in the diabetic related symptoms. Maybe b/c it just affects women, they omit it. I wouldn't be surprised. I was sitting in the endocrinologist's office for my first appointment and there was a poster that said not just yeast infection but chronic vaginal infections. That was me. I had no idea what was going on. Yeast infections medications did nothing for me. Then I got my blood sugars in the normal ranges and *poof* it went away. 9 months of pain and discomfort finally over.

Guest guest
I am sure that anyone with or without diabetes can get yeast infections from antibiotics. My son (who has passed away) got the steph infection that is so easy to get in the hospitals and had to be put on massive doses of antibiotics these gave him a horrible yeast infection. It was in his blood stream and he had Thrush in his mouth, He was in a coma so we do not know what he felt I just hope that he didn't feel the discomfort we knew he was having. So I know for a fact that men do get them. As do babies get Thrush in their mouth. It was one of the first questions the Dr asked me after they discovered that my Blood Sugar was 475. I haven't had the problem but have friends that do.
