Thanks for all the nice comments on my furkids! I actually got up enough

gumption to unfold my Nordic Track yesterday and did all of a minute and 30

seconds! I've had it for years, but I never kept up on my exercising! Now

with this new dx of diabetes, I'm going to have to!

Sometimes insurance companies are so fussy about what they pay out. Even

though I'm an RN, I have to wait for approval for the diabetic educators and

nutrionists. I'm also having to wait for approval for a thyroid scan and

pelvic/OB consults. I suppose I'm ahead of the game being an RN, but things

change from year to year! So sometimes your doc may not know it all and

sometimes it's the insurance companies. Once knew of a CNA where his

insurance company didn't want him to have a blood glucose machine or

additional test strips (can't remember which). He told them, " Okay, I'll

come in 4 times a day to the lab and you can pay for that instead " . They

gave him what he needed!

If you're not happy with your doc, do whatever you can to switch! That

rapport is very important!

I'm sorry but I'm reading so many emails playing " catch-up " since I was in

the hospital and can't remember what is the reason you are on oxygen and in

a wheelchair. I just want to tell you a little bit of what has happened to

me.

Six years ago I had cardiac arrests #5 and #6. I had the first 4 cardiac

arrests after an auto accident 10 years ago when both lungs collapsed. (I

wasn't given much chance of survival then either). After the last 2

cardiac arrests my heart was only beating at 12% normal capacity. I was in

a wheel chair and on oxygen around the clock. I could do absolutely

nothing.

To make a long story short, my heart is now working at NORMAL capacity, I

only use my oxygen at night (most of the time),I've been walking as much as

possible but with this heat wave here in Texas I landed in the hospital

again with CHF the first week of June. Now, as of July 4, I have a

treadmill, (thanks to my daughter and her husband) and I don't have to go

outside to walk. Most days I walk 30 minutes, sometimes all in one session,

sometimes I break that up into 2 x 15 minute or 3 x 10 minute sessions, plus

the usual walking from one room to the other because I have what the

truckers call CRS. I know that sounds crude but that's all I can think of

when I forget what I've gone to the other room for. Anyway, the point of

this email is to let you know that this is coming from someone whose

children were told that I couldn't possibly live over 10 hours. After

surviving that, they said I needed to be put on the heart transplant list.

I refused. I told them that God gave me a good heart and I would keep the

one he gave me. I'm not trying to preach a sermon to you but God answers

prayers. Between His sparing my life and my hard headed determination I am

doing fine. I use a cane when walking outside of the house but I don't use

it inside. I think it has become a " security blanket " since I have fallen

so many times.

I just wanted you to know that the doctors don't know everything. You just

hang in there and pray and you just might be out of that wheel chair, on

your feet, and off of that oxygen sooner than you think. Remember, THINK

POSITIVE!

My prayers are for you,

Tootie

not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, 'I used everything you

gave me.' "

Re: Exercise

Thank you --

I definitely need some exercise help! I am now stuck in a wheelchair to get

around anywhere outside my house and have a fifty foot long oxygen tube that

follows me everywhere I go! I have a hard time exercising with the oxygen

tube, but can't exercise without it as I cannot breathe. Does anyone have

any

suggestions as to what kind of exercise I could do with this problem??

I am trying to take off 130 lbs and with just diet that is almost impossible

for me since I barely eat anything anyway.

There is also an excellent book out written by L. Small and Loren M.

Fishman, MD. The book is called Yoga and Multiple Sclerosis A Journey to Health

and Healing. It has great pictures and explanation. The exercises are shown

for all levels of mobility.
