Guest guest
Hi Trish, I am the Queen of Iron Problems. What were your numbers from the last blood work-up? Okay here is one that will probably shock you. A client of mine is a doctor. He is the only doctor that has never given me any info that turned out to be wrong. I was talking to him the other night about the iron problems and he told me to cook with only cast iron pots!!! He claims this will add iron to your system. I kept thinking he was joking, but he claims not <shrug> Like I said he has never been wrong about anything thus far. Additionally, I started the NFs last week. After a couple of days I was so nauseous I thought I would die. I cut back from two to one. It seemed a little better, but was still sick. I am not sure the iron had anything to do with it. I will try to go back on them by Monday and will pick up some vit C in the meantime. Last thought... SMOKING [thanks don't need cancer lectures] :-) While I will never admit that smoking has an effect on anything... If the iron was making me ill.... The smoking added to it. I am a REAL smoker that has never given it up for a day. Smoked in the hospital with pneumonia. I smoke on planes!!! :-) Are there many smokers on the list and if so do any of you feel smoking has had any effect on you regarding the surgery or anything associated with? Please keep me updated on your iron search and information you may receive. Thanks, Barbra IRON > > > Carolyn or anyone who has thoughts about iron supps: I > take the NIFEREX150 that I got from Vitalady. Guest guest
Barbara... I too have heard the iron skillet story & I believe it is true. However, that applies to normies. First off, in my case, I need huge amounts of iron, & the little bits I may get from food or the iron skillet isn't a drop in the proverbial bucket. Second, I don't think skillet iron it is broken down enough for us so that we absorb it. Iron that comes straight from the earth is least absorbable. Iron that comes from plants is organic & has been broken down by the plants that absorbed it from the earth. I don't know how polysaccharides or ferrous fumerate is obtained. Hopefully others will post info & revise this info if they know something else. my last test showed hemoglobin at 9.1 (up from 9.0)... I wasn't taking enough iron to get a higher reading. Is Niferex Forte the same thing as Niferex 150? When I first started taking iron, I was getting acid reflux... don't know if that related to iron or not, but it deosn't happen anymore. I'm so sorry about the smoking thing & believe no one really wants to smoke. I understand addictions, & I hope you will find a way to overcome yours. Guest guest
Hi Trish, Not sure if the Nif and Nif Forte are the same, but there are even with that knowledge on the list that I am sure we will hear shortly. My hemo is at 10, but the real problems pop up in the " iron series " study. Have you had that done? If not, have your doc order it on your next set of bloods. Barbra > > > Barbara... Guest guest
The Nif Forte contains the B12 that the Nif does not. The iron is them is the same. The polysaccharide complex allows us to absorb the iron. We are unable to absorb the irons bound to non-organic iron like ferrous sulfate. The iron studies tell us what kinds of iron storage we have (ferritin) and how much iron we are using and how much of the available binding sites is being used (% saturation and TIBC- total iron bindinb capacity) - when our iron goes down the TIBC goes up (there is a greater amount still open ) I have just changed to get no mail until I get back from out of town on the 19th, so anyone who wants to email me, please do it at dr4kids@... . Thanks. Carolyn Re: IRON & SMOKING > > >Hi Trish, > >Not sure if the Nif and Nif Forte are the same, but there are even with that >knowledge on the list that I am sure we will hear shortly. Guest guest
Hi Trish, Just started back on the iron today as I do not believe that was what was making me nauseas. I was rereading your post and you said your hemoglobin went up to 9.1 I haven't a clue as to what that is measuring by I am only at a 10 and the normal range is 11.5 - 15. Not understanding these either [but they are in the same group as the Hemoglobin] I was too low in Hematocrit, MCV and MCH. Hmmmmmmmm.... Hopefully, someone has some answers. Guest guest
I was told my iron is low slightly low at 11.5. I am trying to take extra iron with my vitamin that has iron also. I woman on another list had a blood transfusion when her's got to 6.5!!! I don't want one of those!!!!! Guest guest
whew! that seems like it could be dangerous... seems like low levels could cause some body damage if body parts weren't getting enough oxygen (?) What list is that? am wondering how it got that low without help sooner? most people want to sleep all the time when it gets to 10. I talked to one girl who was at 7 & she was out on disability & could not work. I thought 9 was hard, so I just can't imagine how bad 6.5 is. My doc said she would give me iron by vein in the hospital if it dropped more... but its going up (slowly) Trish > > >I was told my iron is low slightly low at 11.5. Guest guest
Hi, With iron at 11.5 you are in the normal range [but at the low end]. If basing the iron JUST on this number you are okay. I did find out that LOW Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, MCV and MCH are all additional indicators of low iron as well. I went out and bought my vitamin C boosters today. Got the GNC ones and they are so yummy they taste like candy. Could eat them all day :-) Keeping taking that iron and I will pass on all info as I gather it.
