Guest guest
Hi Everyone, We just got back from DisneyWorld this afternoon. Maintaining the diet in DisneyWorld and on the road was much harder than I anticipated. We did fine and Kim is still in " ketosis " (Thank God!!), but it was not easy. The cream was our biggest problem. It is so hot in Florida that even in a cooler the cream gets warm very quickly and I felt tied to the motel for her meals. The other problem I had was she kept asking for more drinks, she was way, way over her allotment each day and the ketones did slip a bit, to moderate in morning and 80 at night. Kim wanted to have her own water bottle(sports bottle). She liked buying water from the vendor in Disney. Since water was the only food item she could buy I let her do this alot but it was a struggle to stop her from drinking too much from the full bottle. One time she was drinking so much of it that I leaned over to get it and she said " No, why are you taking it away " (She knew why!!), She was not accepting that water too had to be limited so I said to her " because I am so thirsty " and I chugged the water bottle down except for a few ounces so she wouldn't have it. The diet has really helped with Kim's seizures and she has accepted the food restrictions better that we anticipated but in DisneyWorld she constantly argued and begged for food. The rest of the family, 2 older girls(18 and 15) and me and my husband found ourselves eating in shifts because Kim was not able to sit in a restaurant and accept eating her food when we were eating something else. We went to a character dinner(Goofy and Mickey, Minnie, etc.) at the Grand Floridian and we asked Kim if we should do this because she would have to eat her own food but she could have fun with all the Disney Characters. She said fine and said she understood and wanted to do it. Well, My older daughter said we looked like the craziest family she ever saw. The waiter brought out the bread and put it on our table and Kim busted out crying, My daughter said that I yelled to her, it's the bread, the bread, cover it with a napkin and my husband was saying to Kim, " we talked about this, we talked about this Kim!!) My daughter said the people next to us looked at us like we were crazy. We got through the meal but we took turns following the characters around with Kim. My husband ate a piece of cheesecake with a napkin over it and Kim yelled from two table spaces over, " I know what you are doing, You are eatng dessert!!! " We made it a quick, quick, meal and left as soon as we could. We thought she could handle it but she did-not handle it very well but, we got through the meal. Kim's acceptance of the diet at home is good so I didn't expect her to have that strong reaction at the character dinner after we discussed it and she seemed to want to go to see the characters. It was a good trip, we had a good time but it also feels good to be home. I carried the gram scale in my bag for 10 days and it feels good to get it out. We only had 2 brief, mild seizures the whole time we were away and that was after the ketones dropped because of all the excess water she drank. The diet is definitely do-able on the road but it does require alot of WORK!! I know you are going in December and I hope this post doesn't scare you, the diet is certainly do-able at DisneyWorld. The Disability pass worked out great and we barely waited in any lines. Glad to be home, Fondly, Pam and KimGet more from the Web.
