Guest guest
, I know in the past when I have had surgery I have been VERY sick but the last surgery I had, for my back, my cousin the anesthetist said there was a med they could give you with your anesthesia that would aleviate the nausea.( I think the name started with an O) It really worked, I am glad too due to not wanting to get sick after back surgery, OW!just me .02 Paige > >Reply-To: MiniGastricBypassonelist >To: Minigastricbypassonelist >Subject: Question to those on the other side >Date: Thu, 14 Oct 1999 16:11:38 -0700 (PDT) > >I have a question for you guys who have stepped over . >. . . Guest guest
I have a question for you guys who have stepped over . .. . . Did anyone have trouble with nausea from the anesthesia or pain medication? Each time I've had surgery in the past, I've always spent that day and the next " hugging the toilet " . I really dont want to go through that with this surgery. I know there are some RNs out there. Should I ask for anything specific from the anesthesiologist to help or prevent this? Guest guest
Hi , I had no problems with N/V post op, but it does happen to some people. I know Dr R. has some standing orders for medications in case that happens, plus you will be getting some meds routinely. He is very thorough with his orders, the nurses commented to me about how many orders he has and how organized he is! Just make sure to mention your concern to him and the anesthetist pre-op. And if you need something, ask for it!! Good luck, Karin Eby, RN MGB 9/20 Question to those on the other side > > > I have a question for you guys who have stepped over . > . . . Guest guest
, I had my MGB on 8/9/99. The absolute worst part of the hospital stay/surgery for me was coming out of the anesthesia. However, I can compare it to a hysterectomy I had years earlier and I actually didn't do near as bad with the nausea.....here are the gross details......I was very nauseated when I got back to my room from recovery. (note: I think I hate vomiting more than about anything! and...I avoid it at all possible costs even when I would feel better if I just got it over with) I " spit " into a towel a couple of times immediately and that was about it.... the nausea hung around for a few more hours but became less and less and that was it....probably all over with in a matter of 4-6 hours. Never did vomit though one of the other MGB people that had her surgery the same day did vomit a time or two. I really did not want to do anything to hurt my new tummy. If Dr. R knows you have this problem, he probably can help out with meds in some way. I have a history of severe reaction to most pain meds (severe vomiting/dry heaves, killer headache, nausea, some dizziness) but I had no problems during my stay. Well, there's my detailed, gross description......The way I looked at it...the pain, etc. only lasts for a while but my obesity would have made me sick for a VERY long time. :-) Amy in IL Question to those on the other side > > >I have a question for you guys who have stepped over . >. . . Guest guest
Hi , This too was a concern of mine. I have ben put under 4 times before my bypass surgery almost 4 weeks ago and I got TERRIBLY sick each time. I was so scared of this happening again after this surgery. Yes, I was feeling a bit sick but did not end up throwing up. It was not nearly as bad as my other times being put under. I was even given medication to prevent me from being sick one time and that did not help AT ALL. I wouldn't worry too much. I can only speak for myself but I was ok this time around. Good luck hun, Toni Pinkston ICQ # 1202266 IM name rynkatsmom 3 1/2 weeks post-op and down 25 lbs. GONE FOREVER!!!!! M wrote: > > > I have a question for you guys who have stepped over . > . . .
