Guest guest
Ok now I have tried to be educated, but I just don't understand???? Stevie you are going to have to explain. Is the surgery done in St Louis like the kind Dr in Durham does????????????????/ Or the Wentzville barometric Center??? Midwest Bariatric Center I don't know anybody in Durham and I am scared to go there alone?? Is the doctor black??? Duh I hate to sound so stupid, but I just am and can't help it. When you live all your life here in the hills of Missouri you just can't figure anything out very much. Guest guest
, Dr R is one of the very few Doctors that does the Mini Gastric Bypass. Most Drs. do the open procedure. I think there is one surgeon in Atlanta that does the same procedue as Dr. R and maybe one other but I think that is all. MGB is the way to go for this surgery, Sorry to those who had the open procedure. Deb Hertlein
Guest guest
, I think Stevie was just caught off guard. I think that the question just sort of came out of left field ya know??? Anyway, what is it about the procedure that you do not understand? I will answer questions if you like but I know that if you posted to Dr R he would also answer any questions. With the amount of info on the site I would go and read each and every page and write down questions as you go. If you come across an answer in your reading then cross it off your list and read on! Guest guest
NONONONONo! I dont't believe it was understood what you were looking for . Dr R is the only Dr. that I know of doing this particular procedure. It is a laproscopic instead of open, and the conections that he uses are ones he has found to work for his patients. I am sorry you feel as if we have our backs up I just think it ws a misunderstanding. Guest guest
Dear Stevie, I have read the material on Dr R's site but I still don't understand a lot about it????? It does not matter what color Dr R is. I was just asking out of curiosity?? If he can save my life I don't care if he is polka dot or green or any other color, I was simply asking if he was black? Period. Why are you so defensive about it??? I think it is a reasonable question. If no one wants to answer me then ok I'll ask him myself. I'm sure he is not ashamed of his color, no more than I am. I happen to be kind of pinkish redish whitish and sometimes brownish goldish and tanish, depending on the time of year. Now is that fascinating or what??????? Guest guest
I guess I know when I am out numbered??? So just don't worry about it. OK?? Just relax and breathe and you'll be fine!!! Ask me anything you want, nothing bothers me. I work at the hospital in registration and am use to asking people personal questions. It's just part of the job. After 17 years of it, you become numb to a lot of feelings. So many people volunteer answers to questions that I really don't even want to hear, like, when they had their last BM or how much money they have in the bank and I could write a book!!!! I can see you guys are very sensitive and that is sweet. So just say to yourself " peace " means no ill. She is just blunt and wierd. Guest guest
: If you go and really read all of the material on Dr. R's site, you will see that although he and a handful of others across the US are some of the first to do Gastric Bypass surgery laproscopically, his procedure is specifically limited to him. Although he could do what some of the others do-a " Lap-RNY " , he has found in his many years of doing gastric surgery that the Billroth Loop is a preferred and better surgery. So, in answer to your question, I seriously doubt that your doctor does what he does as I still think he's the only one doing a Loop bypass laproscopically (and if that's changed, someone let me know!) . Your doc is probably doing the Lap RNy (Roux-en-Y) procedure. And out of sheer curiosity, why does it matter if a doctor is balck or not if they can save your life? Were you asking if Dr. Rutledge is? ly, I don't feel comfortable answering this question. Sorry. But I don't think it should matter what color, size, shape, race, religion or sexual prefernce a person has if they can save a life and are as dedicated to doing that as Dr. Rutledge is. Just my opinion. Guest guest
I think it may be because its not the kind of question you hear often in this day and age. The thought of even asking if a doctor is African American or Asian or Hispanic would be as offensive to a lot of people as if someone walked up to YOU in the middle of the mall and said " how much do you weigh? " In a nutshell....its irrelevant to who you are. Re: Re: Quick Question please >From: Deckbound@... > >I don't even have a doctor that does this surgery here in Springfield??? Guest guest
Thanks Paige, what you said did make sense and I am beginning to understand better all the time. The thing that Stevie got her back up was because I asked if Dr Rutledge was black. I shouldn't have even ask. I forget that a few people are very touchy about that subject!!! I have a nephew that is biracial, in fact he is black. He was adopted by my brother and his wife when he was 2 as he had been shifted from one foster home after another. He has grown up now to be a wonderful young man. We all love him so much, in fact he is a favorite as he has the most delightful personality, is athletic, makes good grades and is the best example of a human being that I have ever seen. His biological family still try to get in touch with him but my brother won't allow it yet. He is well adjusted and my brother doesn't want to risk confusing him and will let him make a choice about meeting them when he is 21. So far he has never expressed any desire to meet them, as his other brother and sister are also adopted and are white and have decided not to meet with their biological parents. So will probably follow suit, as they are an extremely close knit family. My brother has written to his biological parents and assured them that is well and happy and that is all that matters right now. He will be going to college next fall. Guest guest
Good idea Paige, I need to read and reread. I'll get it. I'm just a slow learner!!!! Also I have literature and sites about other bypass surgery and I have been skipping around too much and have confused myself and mixed myself up, instead of just concentrating on one until I am completely familiar with what one does. Thanks again.

Dr. R has articles about these procedures. This will help you to know exactly what you are getting into. Rae

Guest guest
I have looked at tooooooooo many different types of surgery on the net and one of the ladies suggested to me to start over and take notes as I go and that is exactly what I intend to do. I have gone about this all wrong and that is why I am so mixed up and confused and upset about this whole thing. I don't see how on earth anybody makes a decision as to where to go. In the long run, I'll probably just have to go wherever my ins says for me to go, so it won't even matter. So I don't know why I am trying so hard to figure out so many things that Idon't even begin to understand. I am not a nurse or a medical person in any form. My son in law is a physican and he won't commit to any certain one so I don't know why I think anybody inpaticular is going to be able to give me the answers I am looking for. Anyway I have just scratched the surface and I am finding out there are many wt loss surgery types out there and I may as well just slow down and take it a day at a time. It will be clear to me when the time comes to make a final decision. I do have that kind of faith.

Guest guest
I really did not want to respond to any of this " mess " I have been reading but..... Both Stevie and have excellent points. Maybe could have phrased her question a little differently but just because she asked " the question " doesn't mean she had any judgemental thoughts. Some people just ask out of plain old curiosity. I wondered the same thing myself, not that it made any difference, I was just curious. Just like wondering if a person you are going to meet is tall, short, thin, fat, etc. No particular reason, just curious about the person you are going to meet. No one wants a person to be judged based on color, weight, etc. but lets not be judgemental just because a person chooses to ask a question. We don't know what that persons reasons are for asking so why judge her? If we are going to be supportive and nonjudgemental then it should go for all aspects. Everyone here has always been so wonderful to me and other people. This flaming is so hurtful and discouraging. We are supposed to be open and be able to discuss anything. Just my .02 worth. If this offends anyone, I apologize in advance and if someone feels the need to flame me for it then please do it privately so as not to discourage anyone else, especially the newbies. in AL
Guest guest
You know DECKBOUND I have been on this list for at least 4 months before I ever saw your post . Several months I was here in silence just trying to gather information so I could make an intellegent decision on the MGB> The few times I got the nerve to express myself or to ask a question Stevie was always the one who seemed to listen and give me the most info. Me someone she had never met until clinic one Sat. There has NEVER and I mean NEVER been the type of conversation on this list that sounds so very hostile until your name appeared. It seems this is the kind of negative input that would scare most people off this list. I for one don't appreciate it, and I don't like seeing someone kind and helpful like Stevie bashed this way. Just wanted my opinion heard. I hope Dr. R doesn't waste his time having to read anymore of this junk, cause I know he reads our posts too.
