Here in North Carolina, you can have two appeal requests and the third one you are allowed to attend to voice your views. Guest guest Posted August 28, 1999 Report Share Posted August 28, 1999 It truly can be frustrating... unable to have children due to my husband being sterile, we were denied testing because of " not being a covered benefit " , but yet they will cover abortions. Just like a man can get testosterone injections for sexual dysfunction, yet a woman has to pay for birth control. Insurance companies have a long way to go when it comes to health issues related to females. What I found the most disturbing was, they would cover WLS if I was homebound from my weight, which would mean at the highest possible risk potential, versus covering the procedure prior to complications secondary to obesity. I was told by someone else that had the same ins (Partners) that they were denied at appeal to go ahead and get an attorney. What is so ironic about this is they will pay for a sex change operation but not this. I don't understand their reasoning. I really appreciate everyone's support on this. My last appeal fell through and the retired teacher group I could get into, IF they ever have an open enrollment again, will enforce prior conditions exclusion. We are shopping for a new insurance for our company so pray that we can find one. If not, as soon as our house is finished and we see what the overruns are going to be (everyone says they WILL occur) we will re-consider paying for it ourselves. My husband told me once again last night that he wants to find a way for me to have it. In the meantime, I am going to Weight Watchers and have lost 11 pounds, just about what I had gained after I decided to have the MGB. I feel like I cannot sit and do nothing. I will go crazy. Guest guest Posted August 28, 1999 Report Share Posted August 28, 1999 Kay You need to read your manual very carefully....I also have Kaiser NC and was denied on all appeals even though my health was so bad that I was approved for SSDI in 4 months!!!! Kaiser NC only allowed me 2 appeals...I was legally allowed to attend the second one...also, use your manual to check for time limits of the appeals....Kaiser is notorious for going over their alloted time and was just recently fined for this same thing!!!! Good for NC Ins Comm!!!!!!!! I chose a purple cresent moon that has a baby laying on it with it's little bootie(covered by a white diaper) in the air. It has dust and stars surrounding it with my daughters name (Sidney) at the bottom and her birthdate at the top. It truly is a work of art. Beautiful! I am having surgery THIS wed on Dec 1st!!!
