Maybe there is an option that we can explore for next year, such as

teleconference meetings where those out of state can call in to participate

and hear discussions.

All I can do is inquire and let you know if that could be an option. Need to

keep in mind that I am sure there is a cost involved in doing something like

this and support groups do not operate from any sort of budget. Let gather

some data and get back to you, please.

In the menatime, once we get things off the ground, it's quite possible to

work up a paper and web " newsletter " that we could publish once a month to

discuss new post ops, questions of the month, recipes,

letter from the Dr., classifieds-like clothing

for swap, etc, pictures and of course, minutes from the support groups or

topics that were discussed. What do you think?

Stevie, that would be a great idea. Do I hear a volunteer to take this on?

Hint, hint. Right now with all the changes happening at work, I can not take on

any additional responsibilities; however, I would be willing to assist you best

I can. Please let me know.

I just contacted the The Obesity Law and

Advocacy Center and wrote them my story it is //obesitylaw.com if

anybody else needs it. Sounds like a really good resource and they have a

newsletter too. I subscribed to that too. The fee is $500. if you decide

to hire them. I'll pay it if I have too!!!!! I'm really feeling fired up

today. Have new appointment with Dr McNay this coming Tuesday.

She has been out for a while having a baby. Now she is back part time and I

got an appointment. She is a " with it type person " if you catch my drift.

So let's hope she will be communicative and listen to me. Everybody please

pray. My appointment is at 130 next Tuesday. in Missouri

Be sure that you are totally educated with statistics and know the materials

that Dr. R provides on his web site. Print it off and take it to her. Dazzle

her with your knowledge about the procedure and the stats of what it will do for

your health. My pcp wasn't very supportive and after 45 minutes with me

educating her about MGB, she was very supportive and really wants to know more

because now she has other patients that she might refer to Dr. R. It helps to

be informed and not just go in and complain and not have a solution for your

problems. I will be thinking about you and praying that she is understanding

and will help to get you what you need.

I am still waiting insurance approval. Have been denied once and refiled and

was asked for more information. I am working very hard to not get depressed.

It is a struggle for many of us to get to cross over to a healthy, active life.

Hang in there. If you want it bad enough, you will make it happen.

Thank you !!!! I have the booklet from Dr Rutledge that I will take

and leave with her to read and I am going to go through and highlight all the

things that apply especially to me!!!! Thank you for the great advice. I am

so excited and I just know things are going to get going for me. I read

somewhere to " live expectantly " and that is what I have always done.

Sometimes I lose my perspective as I do have a temper. But now I feel on

track and positive, so please everyone let's join together and

PULLLLLLLLLLLLLL as hard as we can to get all of us going in the right

direction and pray for guidance. We are " overcomers " !!!!!!! in

the hills of Missouri where we barely got shoes!!!! lol

Dear Tara Lynn, So great to get your note!!!! I will take whatever I can

get!!!! Just so I can have something done by a competent doctor, preferably

Dr Rutledge. But like you say, that may or may not come to pass. I am

trusting God to lead me to where I am supposed to go. My husband were

brought up in homes with wonderful religious backgrounds in the Methodist

Church. Our faith has taken us far and we are telling ourselves that things

work out as they do for a good reason. So I am waiting patiently for the

next step!!!!!!!! Later,

I am glad to see you are using a real name now - helps us to get to

know you! I just wanted to let you kow that I am also outside of NC with

an HMO insurance. I set out Hell bent on getting my insurance to cover

the MGB with Dr. R - I even switched insurances and went through several

appeals. In the end - I was denied because he was an out of network

provider. That is how many HMO policies are, unfortuantely. I was

however, approved for the surgery locally. This meant that I would have

to have the OPEN procedure - the RNY. I was very hesitant at first

because I could not afford to be on my back for more than a week - but

my diabetes was getting worse and I was getting heavier by the day - so

I went for it. I received a lot of WONDERFUL support here on this board

and I am treated like family despite the fact that I had a different

procedure. The end result is the same. I have lost 75 lbs in 4 1/2

months and my diabetes was gone by the time I left the hospital. I have

had no complications and it was definitely the best decision I ever

made! WHat I am trying to say is that you should go for coverage with

Dr. R with all of your might. BUT - when you get to the end of that rope

- tie a knot and hang on - because there might be other options out

there that are certainly worth exploring! If you have any questions

about the open procedure - I am always around. Good luck in your plight!

am sure you will do fine. I have not had my surgery yet. So I can't give

Missouri and I wish you the very best and I think you already have it!!!!!

Hi!

I too have posted a couple of times with no response. I just assume that I

am doing something wrong! Would you e-mail me and let me know if you get

this e-mail? I am also approved and scheduled for surgery with Dr. Rutledge

on October 29.

Who will your surgeon be? Open or Lap? Maybe we can support each other

after surgery. I am 38 and the mother of three...ages 13, 9, and 7. I was

a teacher, and have been the high school librarian for 8 years. I live in a

very rural area between San and Corpus Christi, Texas. There are

only 500 students at our high school. Despite the financial drain and

inconvenience, I feel it will be well worth it to have surgery with Dr. R.

in North Carolina. I LOVE HIM!!!

I decided to send this e-mail to you directly instead of posting. I prefer

privacy at this point...when I am skinny and gorgeous I may feel

differently! LOL

Hope

to hear from you!

Dianna,

Sometimes posts are directed to a person but the one answering will not use

your name. So what happens is you get a post that says " you are soooooo

right! " problem is we do not know who " you " is....LOL Please do not feel

left out I believe that it is the time of year. Everyone is doing work and

home and just have less free time to surf! I try to respond but I have been

lurking of late due to insurance woes, I also have a condition that makes

long posts hard on my eyes. But I will keep a lookout! :) Paige

equidistant to him! I am still working with insurance so I am the gatekeeper

to the other side! I think Stevie who's helper I was, has now passed over I

again there is no reason to apologize .. i do realize people have lives and

lots of email :) i just was having a bit of a tantrum day with all that was

going on. You sound like you are doing great. the more i read the more i

want this surgery now. i am trying to be patient with all the stuff i have

going on right now and getting through my fear of doing the anesthetic. i

realize that its normal however my last experience was so bad that its hard

to shake. and my brain tries to make deals with me like ok eat low carb for

a month ans see if you can lose it .. like i haven't done that a million and

one times ... it the 99th didn't work why would my pea brain think the 100th

would.

right now i am trying to get all my swans in a row.

One thing i do need is after i talked to my GP and he turned out to be

suprisingly supportive wants to know what to write in the letter of support

for the surgery and i didn't know what to tell him .. and the psych doc asked

the same thing. i guess i am just not getting it. cuz i looked at the web

site and the book and all i can find is that you need the letter not the

content of the letters

any help would be appreciated.

Also does anyone know if you have to be in any particular state with the

reflux if that happens to be the problem. or does it even matter for the

surgery?

Thanks again,

diana

gut.

I am planning on Dr R. though i can't say i worry that he wan't accept me.

thaugh i think that is just my paranoia .. i hope that is what it is anyway

:) i'm 30.. well 31 in a few days.. and i live in utah. i have two lovely

puppies 2 1/2 and 9 months .. no kids. i work for a computer company here as

Hi

I will apologize for myself and everyone else. Sometimes I get close to 200

emails per day and I just can't reply to all of them. So please accept this

as an apology. On Monday Oct 4th I had my surgery with Dr,Rutledge at

Durham Regional Hospital. It was a great success. I came through the

surgery with flying colors and was able to leave the hospital in 2 day

without any complications. I did not even have to use the morphine pump for

pain because there was NO PAIN. Honestly, I never experienced any pain with

the exception of a little gas in my back immediately after surgery. Later

that night I was up and walking the hallways of Durham Regional. I was a

little shocked at my ability to get aroundso well. Let me tell you the IV

was actually slowing my pace a bit. If everything goes well that will

probably be your biggest worry. It is a very cumbersome thing to lug

around. Having said all that , I just thank God for Dr. Rutledge and for

blessing this man with the ability to do what he does. I returned to his

office to have my staples removed but, he said that they needed to stay in

a little longer. It was a great day indeed. There was one lady there who

was 6 months post-op and she has lost over 90 lbs. She looks great and you

should see the joy in her eyes. There was one gentleman there from

Michigan who has lost 16 lbs in five days. Can you believe that? I lost 10

lbs myself and I am so pleased . Anyway, I did not mean to ramble on and on

but I just can't help myself. If there are any questions that I can answer

for you let me know. If there is someone in particular that you are trying

to contact just let me know and I will see what I can do.

Carlissa
