Guest guest
Ten days ago I went on the GF/CF diet. I know this isn't exactly the best venue for this but there are some very knowledgeable medical/chemist people on this list and I would really like it if you could confirm this or tell me where I'm off. I looked everywhere I could think of about withdrawal symptoms when starting the GF/CF diet and while I found many references to how intense and uncomfortable it can be, there was no laundry list that I could find. What I did find was numerous references to the endogenous opiods that the susceptible autistic kids (and I would assume the susceptible adults too) make, casomorphon (sp?) and Glutomorphone or gliomorphone (also spelling?) and how taking away those substances caused " withdrawal reactions " . So since I couldn't find the laundry list of symptoms, I tried a different tack. If these endogenous morphines are like opiates, then wouldn't opiate withdrawal and gluten/casein withdrawal be very similar? I suspect I am on the right track and just as an aside, I have all of the symptoms listed, even including increased B/P and pulse. Most people don't know what their baseline vital signs are but I'm a nurse, interested in my personal physical health, so I do. I usually run low, 100/50 to even lower, pulse is usually in the 60s (long term runner and exerciser). Last evening my blood pressure was 134/90 and it was 120/84 this AM and my pulse is staying in the 90s. No, I'm not about to stroke out, but these are substantially changed numbers for me. The anorexia, nausea, stomach cramps, dumping syndrome and irritability along with the exacerbation of my ADD (massively, yuck!) and the frequent hot and cold sweats are all getting very annoying. They aren't getting worse but neither are they getting better yet. The GF/CF list suggested that I have some other sensitivity to some other food. Maybe, but my gut feel is these are just standard opiate withdrawal symptoms, complements of starting the GF/CF diet. What do you guys think? Terri ps I have made sure that all sources of gluten and casein are gone. Obsessively.
Guest guest
Terri, Your withdrawal sounds very similiar to my son. My son was 3 when I started the diet. He was vomiting, got an ear infection. He seemed hungover in a big way. I was very nervous, my husbands response was, " What are you doing to the kid, you need to stop. " I think I gave hem a little bit of oatmeal to ease the pain. I think the episode lasted 3 weeks and then he started to progress in doing puzzles and play skills. I remeber trying to find any information on such a bad withdrawal but there was not any. I think much of it is yeast die- off as well. nne > Ten days ago I went on the GF/CF diet.
