Guest guest
Hope today is better than yesterday and half as good as tomorrow.......JAN Jan - mom of Spanky (the little rascal) Hi everyone, just wanted to take a few minutes o let you all know that Spanky and I moved in on Sun, into the apartment and are doing quite well. I have beenso tired, from too much cleaning and unpacking and stuff but it is satisfying. Mom gave us a scare on New Years day, thought she was havinga heartattack. it was only spasms and her nerves, thank goodness. All thesame it was scarry since she had a quad by pass last March. She will move into her senior apt in Feb. Water therapy on hold til they get the heater fixed. It seemed to help. I have been having alot of pain in my hands lately, don't know why, but definitely don't like it. Janey glad you are getting some sleep. Welcome all new people. Hope you find help and friendship here, I am sure you will. Take care Jan - mom of Spanky (the little rascal)
Guest guest
Tonya, It's . I have those sensations, too. I also have tachicardic and bradicardic tendencies. I have been to numerous cardiologists and neurologists. I know those appointments and visits are always hard. They have since discovered that what were supposed to heart problems are a fainting disorder. I am glad to finally get answers after 3 years of struggling. Hang in there and good luck! Guest guest
Keryn- First of all, you are not a nuisance! I am so sorry that this happened to you. It's just not fair. I would be getting in touch with the Labor board in your area and explaining your situation to them. They may be able to give you some help dealing with your employer. Or maybe your local employment agency, or Adult and Family Services agency, they could help with the financial and insurance issues as well. Those are all I can think of right now. Good Luck Tonya
Guest guest
Keryn, I am so sorry to hear that things have been rough for you. Start the journey of finding financial support. My thoughts and prayers will be with you. Keep us posted on the situation. Hugs, (who is at her Mother's) ---------- > > To: < onelist> > Subject: Update > Date: Saturday, 26 February, 2000 10:46 PM > Hi all- I would like to thank everyone for their kind words, prayers and advice. Today is Saturday and earlier today my supervisor called me on the phone to terminate me. So I am out of health insurance etc… she didn’t list reasons why I was terminated, but I am certain it was to due the excessive absences she mentioned yesterday when I was sent home via cab (at my own expense). My employers have been aware from the start of my chronic pain, and when I was diagnosed with fibro as well. I have kept them in on it every step of the way. When I was hired they told me I would be expected to work a “normal” 40 hr work week and occasionally a few hours every other Saturday so they (the owners) could go see a movie or something. That seemed fine at first. So when my supervisor Lauri said to me yesterday that they wanted someone who could work 13 hour work days or what have you, I was stunned. Even tho this week I went home early by one hour on one day, and was sent home ½ day early yesterday.. I STILL had a 40 hour work week. That has to account for something here! The ironic thing is this… when the owners fired my co-worker/best friend 3 weeks ago I was told that Beth (the owner- Sheldon’s gf and another boss) was really worried if they fired that I would quit. So in the span of 3 weeks it went from being worried about me quitting, to me being fired out of the blue. I had no warnings, reprimands or anything. When I was hired (and to this day) there are no company policies as to how many sick days you can have… we do not get paid for being out sick, no set holidays (no pay on those days), no set vacation days, and yet again no pay if one took a vacation. Whenever I went to the doc I ALWAYS asked my employers what would be the most convenient time for me to go, and never took more than 2 hours off at all. In fact Beth (one of my bosses) actually mentioned not too long ago that I see the doc way too much. Hmmmm last I checked I had a chronic illness here, and I am following the directive of my doctor as to follow up visits. I have customers who call specifically to talk to me to make bookings for their limo needs. I was told I was doing a good job… the main thing they had a problem with was the so called excessive absences which was all fibro related. However, aside from having the flu last week I still almost always had a 40 hour work week. I put in on average 9 hour days as we didn’t get breaks and ate lunch at our desks on the clock. When my supervisor called this morning she informed me that they had already boxed up my stuff and would be bringing it to me. Basically I am not allowed to even do that for myself. I now have no health insurance and am sooo frustrated! Monday I will be calling social security, the workforce commission, Medicaid (as I pray I can get coverage through them), and any other govt. agency I can think of. In any case… thanks again to all of you who have expressed concern… I welcome any insight yet again.. and I apologize if I seem to be a nuisance. Sincerely, Keryn
Guest guest
Greetings ! I just wanted to encourage you to 'stay the course'. Sure it's possible that some of our problems are stress related. But more often than not that stress comes from people that say 'Well, I can not see it, so it might not be real! " . Give me a break. Most people don't need to hang onto something when they stand in a shower, because they wobble rather dangerously. Most people don't have to hang onto something if they suddenly stand up. Most people don't have to hang onto something if they turn in one half circle from one work surface to another. Most people don't see double when they look at something. Most people don't have to worry about whether they will be able to drive in another year, or not. Most people don't have their vision drop form 20/35 to 20/50 in one year. Most people don't have twitches that ripple through one side of their body. Most people don't worry about whether they will be able to sleep or not. Most people don't wake up more exhausted than when they went to sleep. Most people don't have problems recognizing they have a blister on their feet. Most people don't have to worry if they will be able to walk to the car after an action filled movie. Most people don't have to explain that a temp of 99.5 or 96 or whatever " does not mean that you're sick. Most people don't have to worry they will overdo their work in the heat. And it's all the differences that we have from 'most people', many of which are WAY beyond our control, that makes this a very real disease. Many, many people (doctors included) only think something is real if shows up on a diagnostic test. I am fortunate that my doctor notes that my clinical persentation clearly indicates some problem. He has no idea what it is. But he also is honest and good enough to admit that - at best - neurologists understand and have identified about 50 percent of the problems they see. What he does know is that my symptoms are real and he should help me manage those symptoms. For that I am very grateful, and have referred several people onto him. Sure it's possible our problems are psychological in nature. But it's much less likely that is the case, as the physical problems present themselves in very specific and a progressive manner. So, 'stay the course'! Don't worry if your neurologists have a specific name ... see if there isn't something that can be done for the symptoms. Manage those as best as possible so that you can enjoy life as much as you can. Regards, =jbf= B. Fisher

Guest guest
Tina Marie, Your BMI (44.4) is a little low for Kaiser's standards, so they *might* deny you on that basis. I wonder if you could put fishing weights in your pockets when you get weighed? LOLOL - just kidding. I think their minimum is 45 plus 2 co-morbidities. How much weight do you have to gain to be 45? Your hypertension is technically "mild" (per your meds) and your borderline diabetes is just that -- borderline. Meaning some days you will not test diabetic. The thing you have going for you is your age. You're young and those conditions will only get worse over time. You can point that out. ;-) I can't emphasize enough that you need to keep together emotionally when you see the doctor. If they determine you're not emotionally stable enough for surgery, they'll postpone or deny it. I know WLS is a *really* sensitive and important subject for you. But you have to stay as calm and clear as possible. I am in the medical community (medical assistant) and patients are given less attention a lot because of emotional instability. You aren't emotionally unstable, but if your records continually state that you were upset, hysterical, irrational, crying, etc., it doesn't help. Can you bring your husband with you, or a friend, to help keep you calm? Maybe see a psychologist at Kaiser (you don't need a referral to make an appointment) to help you deal with the stress of this? Also, keep in mind that even if Kaiser does not approve you, the national recommendations for WLS are a BMI of 40 or above. So you likely will win on appeal through the Department of Managed Healthcare (DMHC). Don't despair! Tell the doctor the good things you are doing to prepare for surgery. They like to hear that! Tell him you're exercising (if you are) and you're going to support groups (if you are). Tell him you're on several internet support groups and have begun the post-op vitamin regime (if true). Tell him you're seeing a psychologist to work on your relationship with food and the changes you'll face after surgery (if you are). Tell him you know the risks of the surgery (1 in 200 die, chronic malabsorption, need for constant supplementation, leaks, bowel obstructions, ulcers, gall bladder disease, etc.) So....chin up, hang in there, girl! You are not the first to go through this process and you won't be the last. You'll soon be writing e-mails to others, telling them what you went through and how you overcame it! Laurie W. Guest guest
Don't despair. One never knows what Kaiser will do, but there is always hope. Your stats -- weight, height, and bmi are very close to what mine were when I started. I had a bmi of 44.2, newly-diagnosed diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol (and I am also 5' 7 " ). I have been told that there's no such thing as " borderline " diabetes. You have it or you don't. Three strikes, testing over 125, and you're out. Or in -- in the ranks of the diabetic. I'm sorry you've had such a hard time. I have been blessed with a very smooth process to this point -- waiting for a date. Having the committee send you for further evaluation sounds positive. As others have said, do your best to get yourself calm, take a friend or someone with you, bring notes, etc. I'm hoping for the best for you. Don't despair. When you're approved, Kaiser will take very good care of you. Focus on getting yourself prepared for surgery, as if you knew for certain that you will have it. The staff loves to see us making positive changes in our lives. Peace, Elaine
