Guest guest
Lee: The company that markets Xopenex is called Sepracor. The rep for this area I believe is Springfield. We ran a short trial of it and it seems to be pretty good. For those that have not heard of it, the generic name is levalbuterol. It is basically albuterol, but the R and S isomers have been separated. This takes away some of the negative effects that albuterol has (like when they have taken 20 puffs of their inhaler prior to your arrival). Some of the pretty bad patients seem to do better after 1 treatment and don't need successive ones. It is more expensive, of course. The proprietary study information lists it alone as effective as combining albuterol and Atrovent (ipratropium bromide). Here's the link to the product website: http://www.xopenex.com/product.html <http://www.xopenex.com/product.html> We are looking at replacing albuterol with this in our next protocol update. Steve Lemming Azle FD Repiratory Meds I am looking for alternatives to albuterol for the pre-hospital treatment of bronchospasm. I am specifically looking for information on Zopenex, Combivent, Terbutaline, MagSulfate, and SQ Epi. Also, information on BAN (breath actuated nebulizers) Peak-flow meters etc. You can email me privately if you like. Thanks, Lee
