Guys n gals, here is a message from Rick West. It seems he is having

problems posting to Surf Hippy.

Hello,

I just returned from my surgery in Los Angeles... when I was there I met two

patients who just had surgery, one the same day as mine, the other the day

after... FWIW, one of these patients was a young man (30 years old) who had

a failed Conserve C+.. he originally dislocated his hip in 1995,

subsequently developed AVN, had it resurfaced in 1998... it failed some

months ago; exactly how many I'm not sure of... the AVN in his femoral shaft

had undermined the fixation of his resurface component... when I met him,

Dr. Amstutz had just given him a metal/metal, total hip revision, having

left the original resurface acetabulum cup in place...

to me, it seemed interesting that the other patient, a 40'ish Florida dude

who received a resurface, as well as the Virginia guy who had a revision on

his failed resurface, had never heard of the Surfacehippy support forum...

my point being, there is probably substantial data out there regarding

resurfacing that we don't hear about here in Surfacehippy...

at this point, I would especially like to thank Gaz for taking the time to

write Surfacehippy for details after he had his failed resurfacing

revised... glad they didn't have to resort to THR Gaz... Gaz, you're an

amazing person... for you to take the time and effort to share, under these

extenuating cirmstances: your kindness continues to leave me in awe!...

hey, everyone out there, keep fighting the good fight.

Yours truly,

Rick West

PS I still firmly believe in resurfacing as the best alternative (where the

patients bone condition warrants) to THR.
