Dear Surfacehippies:

I've noticed quite a few posts talking about being shaved pre-op. I had a BHR

with Mr. Treacy on October 18 and the only awareness I have of being shaved

is that when I woke up, I noticed that the hair on part of my outer thigh

appeared to have vanished.

Certainly no-one mentioned shaving to me while I was conscious and other than

around the wound area, I wasn't shaved at all. Apparently whatever was shaved

was done after my general anesthetic was administered.

I went under at 11 a.m. and woke at about 12:30 p.m. in my room, all done. I

understand the entire procedure took about 40 minutes and that I was in the

recovery room for the remaining 45 minutes or so.

I am now 10 weeks post-op and rejoicing with each pain-free step I take on my

left side. Last Wednesday, I did some sparring with one of my karate students

and had a fine time. I suppose the minimal hair loss had something to do with

preserving my strength!
