Guest guest
Sissy--I am sorry this woman is giving you grief and I hope she backs off. It makes me feel uncomfortable to have such a person lurking on this list. Your opinions on this total awful movie is correct in my eyes and to me is no way connected to your work. This list is your leisure time and u have a right to your opinion just as well as anyone else. Hang in there and don't give into immature trolls who get their jollies off by attacking ppl on-line. How cowardly is that? Amie--who is shaking her head in disquist I am furious beyond belief Either Newland is a lurker here or someone on this list is telling her I'm slandering her. I don't see her name in the member's list. This is the only place I've discussed it. It doesn't matter either way, since I haven't slandered her. This woman totally hates me. I have no idea what I've done to provoke all this. I have posted some of her and 's emails to me and all of my replies on a webpage. I don't have all of the emails because I did not reply to all of them. I deleted everything in a fit of anger, so what I have is from my " sent " box. I'm thinking seriously of posting this to her lists, including the autism awareness list where her attacks began, but I don't know if it's worth it. I'm just about ready to throw in the towel on email lists anyway. Anyway, if anyone wants to know why I am a total basketcase these days here it is. Whoever is telling her about me, make sure you show this to her: http://home.isoa.net/~nitetrax/linda_roger.htm Sissi Kids' Page http://www.isoa.net/~nitetrax/dillon.htm Boone's Art http://www.isoa.net/~nitetrax/bart.htm
Guest guest
sissi, i don't even know what to say. it has me SO confused about why two people who were total strangers to you are now treating you this way. to write to you personally or even to spread this around on email groups is bad enough, but to write to your job? are they hoping to get you fired or something??? i REALLY don't understand. anyhow, i DO understand your anger at these people, but if i were you, i'd stop ALL communication with them at this point. it's not doing you any good and it just seems to be egging them on. those of us who know you know why you wrote about this in the first place and from what i can see so far, most people are in agreement with you rather than against you. i think maybe we should focus on keeping this a positive situation. lord knows we have enough turmoil in our lives, no need to bring on more love gina " Something important to remember...we'll always be who we are. Guest guest
Sissi, I jsut finished reading the emails. At the end of the first one, 's, I was shaking -- and it wasn't even written to me. I can't IMAGINE how it felt to find that in your inbox. I've recevied nasty emails before, but NEVER just the hell out of the blue like that. Oh my god. Why is he so angry? Is he hiding something? Shit, maybe HE has something to do with the bloody film! Because otherwise, he is clearly just freaking psychotic. I was totally confounded by the part where she says something like, " and I would NEVER do to you what you've done to us professionally. " Professionally? In what capacity were you acting professionally? And how have you DONE something to them by putting your opinion out in a public sphere so wide it encompasses autism groups, online shopping, and porn sites, as well as neo-nazi propaganda and makeover tips and directions on how to make a bomb? I mean, out of all the exercising of free speech on the net, why is YOURS the most offensive they've found to focus on??? No wonder you were crying and unable to sleep last night. I'd have been, too. What I find truly shocking, as I always do, is how free people feel to say cruel and hurtful things to people in email that they'd NEVER say to a person's face. It's like their consciences won't bother them when they can't see your face. It happens all the time, and it makes me SICK. They don't remember or don't CARE that there's a real person on the other end of the keyboard. I have no doubt that if you were with the two of them in a room when they read your initial letter, they'd have probably quietly brought up counter-points without a word of abuse. But like so many people, they feel like they're not accountable for their actions when they're acting against someone they'll never see. I can't TELL you how much that angers me. It's like email allows some people to shed their human decency and let all their cruelty hang out. I agree with that it's probably best for your sanity if you let it go. BUT, that said, I'd sue their asses off if they send one more email to your newspaper. Jacquie

It was totally unexpected. > > Why is he so angry? Is he hiding something? Shit, maybe HE has something > to do with the bloody film! Because otherwise, he is clearly just freaking > psychotic. I really don't have a clue as to why he is acting this way. Or either. It really makes me wonder. Is Spacey from their hometown or something? I just don't get it. Maybe the movie makers consulted their organization abou the film. It's possible I suppose. I bet if they did, hey didn't tell them what it was going to be about. > I was totally confounded by the part where she says something like, " > and I would NEVER do to you what you've done to us professionally. " > Professionally? In what capacity were you acting professionally? In no capacity whatsoever. This has nothing to do with my job, as you know. They're just trying to be hurtful. Why? I don't know the answer to that question. But I'm VERY suspicious. It's like their consciences won't bother them when they > can't see your face. True. Maybe I insulted on of them once a long time ago and this is their way of getting back at me? If I did, I don't recall doing it to , I think its possible. I had run-ins with people on the sju list, but it's been ages ago. It's always over the same thing. I cannot stand to hear the people on that list defend people who have murdered their autistic children. To avoid that, I no longer post when that subject comes up. Far too emotional a subject for me. I wonder if they know someone who's done that or if we've locked horns on the subject before? That and the flame war when I defended Thea. They (members of sju list) attacked like a pack of wolves because she's married to a Muslim. I was defending Thea as a good person. I wasn't defending UBL or the palestiniansd, for crying out loud. You'd never know that by the way I was flamed. is obviously Jewish, I suppose is too. Could that be it? As you can see I've gone over every possible scenario I can think of to figure out what this is about. > I agree with that it's probably best for your sanity if you let it go. You're both right. I suppose I will if they let it drop. Otherwise, I have to defend myself. > BUT, that said, I'd sue their asses off if they send one more email to your > newspaper. I'm seriously considering having my attorney drop her a line. This goes way beyond an Intenet flame war. She can't jeopordize my job, but she didn't know that and it made no difference to her whatsoever. This lady runs a support group??? What does she do for support? Get people fired and ruin their reputations? Sheesh! I'm really sorry this has happened. I know how strongly you feel about this movie. All this nonsense has overshadowed the argument against the movie -- at least for me. Of course, that's clearly what they intended to do. I doubt they even read op-ed if they really think I don't have a right to an opinion. Guest guest
I was so tempted to email that man and and ask him who he thought he was. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, and the fact that you are a journalist does not make your opinion any more/less important or limit your abilities to share them with others. He is acting as if you printed your opinion in the paper, that email lists are " GOD " . All and all the subject to his email " Shame on you " could easily be passed on to him. *I personally have mixed opinions on this in the works movie, on one hand I am outraged about the content, on the other no one was outraged when Mercury Rising was released, the autistic boys whole family was murdered, didn't hear a peep about that. Guest guest
I really think the difference between Mercury Rising and this film is that in mercury rising it was really more about the boy's savant abiltiy to be able to solve the puzzle that got him in the mess that cause his family to be killed. In fact they people that killed the family ans were after him were the obvious bad guys. In this film the boy that murders the autistic child is glorified(or so it seems) so the sympathy is misplaced. I do beleive I was a member of the autism community then;) Jacquie H > > > hand I am outraged about the content, on the other no one was > > outraged when Mercury Rising was released, the autistic boys whole > > family was murdered, didn't hear a peep about that. > > > Maybe there was outrage in the autism community. Downs Sydrom, mental handicaps , deafness and blindness are used as props in movies and TV shows all the time, are you offended by these as well? Isn't making our country more aware of the autism epidemic important too ANY instance where Autism is in the media makes for awareness...... Example is the movie I am Sam, I was not offended by the fact that Pean was portraying a mentally handicapped man, and was actually very touched by this movie.
