I wanted to let you know that i had a tummy tuck done (without a hernia) and

a boob lift done at separate times, and they were both covered by insurance

100%. So, just to let you know that there's hope for ya, and go ahead and

Well, I had lost alot of tissue in my boobies and they were like cocker

spaniel ears just-a-floppin! So, i took the initative, and went to the

plas. surgeon myself and said, " See what you can do " and he did! He

was in my list of providers book that came with our insurance. I have

pictures of before and after of my boobies if anyone wants to see. LOL, NO

I'M NOT ONE TO SHOW OFF THE BOD, HOWEVER IF IT CAN HELP ANSWER QUESTIONS, I'M

My breast reduction surgery was paid for by State Farm Auto Insurance . . . I

had a car accident in which I was the passenger. I had a soft tissue type

of neck injury . . . Went through 1 year of physical therapy to no avail.

The orthopedic surgeon made the referral to the plastic surgeon and State

Farm paid for it. At the time it was a 7 day hospital stay . . . and they

paid for a live in to take care of my son while I was in the no lifting stage

of recovery.

99.9% of insurance will not pay for those procedures unless it is

reconstructive after breast cancer or there is a severe asymmetry of the

breasts. Reduction is almost covered by 100% of insurance companies

according to my plastic surgeon . . . Abdomnioplasty is usually covered as

reconstructive if the pannus entirely covers the pubic area and part of the

thighs, skin on skin folds are the key . . . If the skin is just loose, it is

considered cosmetic only, same for the breasts, they don't care how they

look, it is the excess weight that determines if it is reconstructive or

cosmetic. Deep grooves in the shoulder is a real plus as is back, neck and

shoulder pain for which you receive medication or therapy. A good plastic

surgeon knows the criteria and can maximize the negative appearance in the

before photos and exaggerate weight removal estimates in the insurance

submittal letter. I hope this information helps somebody get something

paid for by insurance. . . )

My insurance didn't pay for my breast lift or implants. But then again,

Tricare Prime didn't want to pay for my panniculectomy either...... and

still hasn't.

I am in Washington. They paid for a lot of people here to get breast

reductions. Just have to have 1/2 pound on each one removed and back

problems. Also the pannis removal is paid for if there are sufficient

infections and other criteria met.

My breasts are starting to perk up but are loosing any small amount of

firmness... (god forbid I don't stand straight up - my nipples will look at

the ground.. ok ok.. TMI but you get the point.. ) with the weight loss

however I have the chest of when I was in the 6th grade just hitting

puberty. I'm slowly finding that a b might be to big!! EKK!

I will most likely try have my internist refer me to a plastic surgeon in my

insurance book as well. Last night he said to give it 6 more months and he

would definately refer me for a tummy tuck..

utt oh.....i think i should have told the plastic surgeon that i have

fibromyalgia and chronic problems in the lumbosacral area with knotting of

the muscle and severe pain. you think i should call his office? my overhang

is no where near covering the pubic area and no documentation of

rashes.....just hernia

Well as long as we are all sharing insurance tales about reconstructive surgery:

I had a lot of hanging abdominal skin, boobs to my waist and bat wings that

Dracula would have envied. My insurance refused to pay for any of it. But when

I had the tummy tuck, breast lifts and arm tucks done in December 1998 I also

had a hernia repaired and after 4 reviews my insurance at that time (Aetna HMO)

finally agreed to pay for the hernia repair which ended up covering all of my

hospital costs and most of my anesthesia so I only had to pay the doctor fees.

I also had a huge amount of leg skin and hanging butt skin and my insurance at

the time (MAMSI Optimum Choice) agreed to pay for the leg tucks in May of

1999(because of an ACL deficiency-bad knee!) and I also had a backside lift and

the insurance picked up all the hospital and anesthesia costs for everything so

I only had to pay the doctor fee. So I ended up getting everything lifted and

tucked for out-of-pocket expenses of about $9,000-pretty reasonable for

everything I had done. Where there's a will there's a !

way...

The backside lift leaves a scar like a bikini line around your backside...the

line rides around my back about 3-4 inches below the waist (right above where

the butt crack ends-sorry to be so visual). I even had a few " gathers " from

where my plastic surgeon tried to tailor in my skin to fit my new contour (they

have all smoothed out now). Between the tummy tuck and the back lift I have a

scar that runs completely around me. It has faded nicely and is just a pink

line now. I still have a bit of extra skin on the sides of my hips and plenty

on my lower buns and top of the back of my thighs and I would love to get a

lower butt lift (cut below the cheeks and lift the back thighs and pull down the

extra butt skin and remove it and smooth out and contour the butt shape) down

the road but I don't know if anyone does this kind of surgery. I am hoping with

time and exercise that maybe some of this loose skin will take care of itself

and I can avoid more surgery because it's expensi!

ve, painful to recover from, and I really don't want to put myself through more

surgery anytime soon! Still it was worth it...the doctor removed well over 5

lbs of skin from the back and another 5+ from the legs!

I would resubmit, or find out the rationale for the denial . . . the only

thing I am guessing is that at her age they may be thinking she will catch

up? You need to find out the companies guidelines for approvals as well. I

have a friend who's sister had the same problem and when she was 23 and done

developing in their estimate, they reconstructed both breasts to make them

match. What she ended up with was a reduction and matching under the muscle

implants. They made the scars even as well.

trying to look 18 again....but then I was never hot at that age either!! LOL

Thanks for the info on the knee angle for the thigh lift. I have arthritis

in knees. Surgeon says in his letter that I have " severe skin redundancy in

the trunk and extremities. " I just can't afford to pay for new body

myself. I have fibromyalgia and have constant problems with my lumbosacral

area. I never thought of trying to get tummy tuck based on THAT chronic

problem! Gonna call the surgeon today and ask!!

will have the added benefit of a tad bit of a thighlift, too! At least

the wrinkles in my skin will be higher!!
