Guest guest
Tamara, I am sorry. Do you have a whole house alarm system like fromADT or something? They can be set to tell you everytime a door or window is opened. Not just setting off an alarm and you dont have to reset it all the time. I hope if you do get a visit from SS that it will be one that could help you with an understanding person. But I hope you dont get a visit. Guest guest
Jacqie: I don't know anything about training a dog, but I would definetely get one if there was such a thing as a autism dog.... Sara?...here's an idea for a new business. I would pay good money for something like that. Seriously, they have dogs trained for everything else...why doesn't someone do this? There has got to be a market out there with all the autistic kids running around. As far as the deadbolt...yeah...I can't do it with the daycare and we can't survive without the daycare. I'll just have to tie a string on my finger and make sure I remember to set the alarm....AT ALL TIMES. It looks nice, and stays put because we had it installed so that the latch is on the outside of the gate. Raena
Guest guest
Tamara, it's not your fault. You have taken so many steps to try to prevent this from happening. The only way you could stop it is by following her 24/7 which you know isn't possible. I understand how you feel because for a while there Mark kept getting out too and I felt like a dumb *ss when the neighbor came over and said Mark walked right into there house. You are only one person and can only do so much! I hope you feel better soon! Tina W.

I will see if I can find anything on that. ......I looked a little couldn't find anything. I will look again later when I have a little more time. But I do know I remember something about that. Guest guest
Tamara, I know NOTHING about this idea, but I was wondering...could you get a big dog and train it to keep Ebony away from the door? Like a service dog, with that specific mission? Or train it to bark like crazy if Ebony touches the door? OR, you could just do what we've done and install a double-keyed deadbolt, but that's probably against regulations when you have an in-home daycare. ??? Guest guest
Oh, Tamara, I don't see why they would call social services..considering you gave the police a photo and all of Ebony's info..they know you are trying to keep her safe. We have to remember to constantly lock the screen doors...so can't go out by himself..and it's not easy to remember every time. I'm glad she is safe. That's good news about the two month break with Ebony's therapies! You will have time to decide what to do next and have some time off from it all. Guest guest
Tamara - {{{{Hugs}}}} We know you are doing everything you can do! That little girl is just too clever!!!! Social Services is just going to have to educate themselves on Autism and runners...and HOPEFULLY, they will offer you suggestions that maybe you haven't thought of... Thinking of you... Guest guest
Tamara - If you could afford to put in a whole house system, it might be worth it. Maybe you could even claim it as an expense against your daycare income!!! We have a system with ADT and, like Jacquie said, the doors/windows beep whenever they get opened... We pay $30/month for monitoring. You can also have your Home Owners Insurance decreased a bit by having a system. Good Luck! Penny
