Hi,

I am , I have a 13 month old and a 5 yeard old. A while

after my first child, I was diagnosed with both UC and PSC. Once my

UC was under control, and I started the Ursodiol, they also opened

my main bile duct. I was feeling pretty good. We tried for another

child, my husband was pretty reluctent, was concerned about the

stress on my body. During my second pregnancy I felt great! I

remained on the same meds throughout. I did not have intense iching

like I had with my first child(I think due to the meds & opening my

bile ducts). I didn't have any complications. Actually during my

pregnancy my liver enzymes all registered normal. The best they had

been since I was diagnosed. I have read that people have flareups

after the baby arrives. I continued to feel pretty good(not as well

as I had when I was pregnant), however, my alkaline phosphatates

have spiked. I think mainly due to the major weight loss, and

stress. We are currently discussing the third. I have yet to run

it by my doctors. Hopefully they won't think it is a problem.

Valeire,

I remained on Asacol & Ursodiol throughout the pregnancy, and even

breast feed for my son's first 9 months. I may reconsider this if we

have a third child, since my usodiol dosage has been doubled. Also,

my doctor did not send me to a high risk OB, however they

communicated together really well. My OB had questions for my

doctor. So they talked several times throughout.

Dawn,

I am sorry to hear about your loss and the difficulty. As if

dealing with these other diseases aren't enough. I have not heard

of HG as a complication related to PSC. Maybe someone else has info

related to this.

Please let me know if I can help with other questions.

There have been some questions regarding people's experiences with

pregnancy and PSC... I've been behind and am finally responding to

this. I just had a baby 4 months ago and have PSC (dx 2002) and

Crohn's (dx 1998) so I thought I'd share my experience.

I know I am extremely fortunate in that everything went smoothly. I

had no problems getting pregnant. I easily gained 40 lbs during the

preganacy (have lost all of it already) and had a 7 lb/14 oz baby

girl. This was my second baby - I had no problems with my first

either. I continue to feel great, except that my LFTs were high at my

post-pregnancy follow-up with the hepatologist... AST was 479, ALT

was 691, ALK PHS was 773 (I haven't been on any meds since the start

of the pregnancy). I was a bit shaken when I heard these numbers...

are these incredibly high for people with PSC or is this not

uncommon??

I searched for info out there on PSC and pregnancy (as did my

doctors) and couldn't find anything. But from what I've heard from

members in this group, many have healthy pregnancies and deliveries.

I've been given mixed messages from different doctors regarding

meds. I was taking Urso for the PSC and Asacol for the Crohn's.

I've been told by some doctors to continue with the meds during

pregnancy/breastfeeding (there's no proven problems with taking these

meds during pregnancy/breastfeeding) and some have recommened I go

off ( " just to be safe " ). In fact my current GI urged I NOT

breastfeed, and go back on the meds. My prior GI recommended I stay

off the meds thru the pregnancy and go ahead and breastfeed. I have

chosen to compromise, breastfeed 6 months, then stop and go back on

all meds. My hepatologist seemed to think this sounded good. It's

very confusing when different doctors recommend different things.

All I know is that I've breastfed now for 4 months and feel great

even though I'm off the meds.
