Guest guest
Patti, Thank you so much for the information about enzymes! I also have another question: which specific kinds and brands of vitamins and minerals do you have your daughter on? We did get an info sheet from the hospital that mentions some, but I'd love to know what you (and other parents out there) are actually using. Thanks so much for all your help and time, Sokulski
Guest guest
Dr. Houston suggested starting with HN-ZymePrime. Patti Houston Enzymes There are two different enzyme formulations listed on the www.houstonni.com <http://www.houstonni.com/> website. Does anyone know which one is better for a keto kid. Guest guest
, Katera is on a pretty low ratio by now..... only 2:1.... and isn't very sensitive to a little extra carb content now and then. I give her Schiff Children's Chewables as a multi..... but, try as I might by phone calling and e-mailing, I have NOT been able to get them to give me a carb content on these. They do have fructose in them and I suspect they are lower in carbs than most chewables that don't contain Nutrasweet (something I'd go to great lengths to avoid, personally).... but they might not be a good choice at the beginning of the diet (Grrr....if only they would answer my e-mails!!!). Many parents use an adult multi and either open capsules or grind up tablets..... you could use a half dose or whatever you feel is appropriate.... and mix it in a little bit of food or sweetened cream. I'm sure some of the other parents can give you an idea of the ones they find work best for their kids. In the past, I have used a multiple for kids from Kirkman Labs, a company that formulates vitamins for kids in the autism spectrum, but they don't contain iron and Katera's bloodwork was showing up low in that. I didn't want to cut and grind separate iron tabs so that's when I switched from Kirkman's " EveryDay " multiple to the Schiff chewable. I still use a product from Kirkman called Every Day Companion... which is a loose powder that I mix in her food. It's got extra mag and calcium, C, E, Zinc, Selenium, etc. all the extras that aren't included in the regular multiple. I also give Katera about 100 mgs of extra magnesium every day to help keep her from getting constipated. She's also getting at least 5 mgs a day of flax oil, calculated into her meals. Guest guest
-- We use Kirkman's Everyday right now -- www.kirkmanlabs.com. I also supplement with extra Vitamin E and B6 and use the Whole Life Cal/Mag/Zinc II, as well as the Houstons Digestive Enzymes. Prior to the Kirkman's we also used another good vitamin, Biotics Research Bio Glycozyme Forte which you can order at www.dcnutrition.com and read more at www.bioticsresearch.com. The list you were given likely has vitamins like Centrun and Bugs Bunny Sugar Free. You can certainly find a much better, more complete vitamin. . .and especially one without Nutra Sweet!--D --- melissasokulski@... wrote: > We did get an info sheet from the hospital that > mentions some, but I'd love > to know what you (and other parents out there) are > actually using. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
D, Thank you so much for the vitamin information, it was very helpful!! You mentioned using Houston enzymes as well--do you use the HN-Zyme Prime? I am just about to place my order for it...I really appreciate your and Patti's responses. Thanks again,
Guest guest
Yes, I use the HN Zyme Prime. I talked with Devon Houston, who developed the enzymes and he felt the HN Zyme Prime was best for a high fat diet, like keto. We worked our way up to 2 capsules/meal and it's made a big difference.--D --- melissasokulski@... wrote: > D, > Thank you so much for the vitamin information, it > was very helpful!! > You mentioned using Houston enzymes as well--do you > use the HN-Zyme Prime? Guest guest
DeEtte -- I just ordered the digestive enzymes from Kirkman. Have you, or has anyone, ever used them? I just find them a very nice company to deal with. Jane
Guest guest
I've not used the Kirkman enzymes, but I do use a lot of their products. I agree that it's a great company and very knowledgeable. The only reason I went with Houstons is that they were recommended by our homeopathic physician. If you join that yahoo enzymes and autism list, you could search for Kirkmans and I bet you'd come up with quite a bit on them.--D --- Jane Praeger wrote: > DeEtte -- I just ordered the digestive enzymes from > Kirkman.
