hello folks,

Patti here, writing from work...

Mike experienced severe itching for the past couple of nights, something he

has not really been troubled with before...ironic that you've all been

discussing it lately. I've looked up rifampin today in the drug books here

at the hospital, it concerns me because of the toxicity to the liver and the

kidneys...not to mention the long list of other side efffects...I'm

reluctant to ask the Dr. to prescribe it for him should the itching

continue.

, I do remember you having problems with that, did you not find

increasing water and a couple of trips to the tanning bed to alleviate that?

After some interrogation it appears my man has NOT been drinking alot of

water lately......

Patti,

Rifampin was the only thing that was effective, long term, against itching for me, although I did find that drinking lots of water, and spending as much time as I could out in the sun, helped a little. I wouldn't hesitate to ask the Doc to prescribe it. He will most likely order frequent blood tests (like weekly) for the first couple of months, to monitor the effect on the liver. Some people have trouble with it, most are able to tolerate without experiencing the side effects. I was in Stage 4 when they started me on it, and there was no bump at all in my LFT's.

Good Luck,
