kailey's summer report card

i thought maybe you'd be interested in how she's doing. so here goes...

p.s. i'm typing it word for word, so if something doesn't make sense, don't

blame it on me ;)

READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS- (Teacher Made Materials, McGraw-Hill Reading)

She is in the 4th book of the McGraw-Hill first grade reading program. She will

continued to work in this book completed 3 stories and their related worksheets.

She worked on Famous Actors reading comprehension book. A high interest reading

written for the 3-4 grade level. She can complete the stories with minimal adult

assistance. She requires direction for definitions and has learned to find the

word in the sentence or paragraph to try figure out the meaning.

MATHEMATICS- (Touch Math Program, Including Time & Money, Teacher Made

Materials)

Kailey worked on beginning multiplication and on understanding of grouping. She

continued to work on money skills. Progress has been consistent. She can match

mixed coins to their value.

SOCIAL STUDIES/SCIENCE- (Teacher Made Materials)

Kailey is highly motivated by peers and enjoys group tasks. We have worked on

the following concepts with an ocean theme am, pm, morning, and night. She

worked on opposites related to seashells. We continue to work on calendar

related skills. She can write and put in written order the days and months;

however, she weakens easily with writing tasks.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS- (Begin Write Program)

Kailey is working on cursive, we have completed the letter " e, l, i and t " . She

can write her full name. She has beautiful manuscript but has a tendency to make

pictures of her letters or put exclamation points after her name. She should

continue to work on cursive writing.

ACTIVITIES OF DAILY LIVING (ADL) -

Kailey is independent within the classroom structure. She is on a word schedule

and is learning to work off a written schedule. She will take time from her

morning routine to groom herself and take care of her personal hygiene needs.

She requires adult assistance to use soap and water.

MANAGEMENT, BEHAVIOR & SOCIAL INTERACTION-

Kailey transitioned well into the structure of this program and has been able to

deal with other students difficult behavior as well as redirection form adults.

She will be moving to the Goshen Intermediate Program where i am sure she will

flourish. She attempts interaction and play with the other students and deals

well with their lack of interest or response. She can at times be verbally

resitant to redirection, scream or run away from the transition.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION- (Medical Restriction) <--- i think this just means she's in

adaptive PE

Kailey participated in low-level organized group activities involving throwing,

catching, running, and hitting a wiffleball. She needs staff assistance to stay

on task.

SPEECH THERAPY- (2xI, 1xG)

This summer, Kailey has been working on following more complex directions and

answering mixed " wh- " questions. Given a root adjective, she is able to label

pictures using comparitive (-er) and superlative (-est) forms with 90% accuracy.

In group sessions, turn-taking skills and vocabulary have been practiced through

participation in a variety of activities, including games and completion of

recipes.

COUNSELING- (1xG)

Kailey attends counseling regularly and willingly participates in her group

counseling sessions. Kailey continues to work on improving her social skills.

She responds well to limit setting when choices are given which allow for Kailey

to participate in having more structured control of her environment. Additional

work has focused on internalizing skills that would allow for Kailey to respond

appropriately to her peers, which includes recognizing and developing responses

to social cues as well as recognizing how her actions affect others.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY- (1xI, 1xG)

Kailey has continued to maintain her current skill level in the area of O.T.

goals of previous school year. She continues to seek out and benefit from

various sources of SI input which help her to promote improved fine motor

coordination (scissor skills, hand strength), visual motor coordination

(handwriting), and organizational skills. Kailey also participates in platform

swing activities to address postural control and bilateral coordination.

I *loved* this part. I used to do the same thing. LOL

Sounds like she's doing very well!!
