Hi ,

I'm sorry for all that you've been through at your young age, and in such a short time. The worst part is that you seem to have no support. You can't possibly go through all of this alone. There may well be support groups in Nashville for UC and for liver disease. The American Liver Foundation has some great support groups. These groups are free, and generally very helpful. But this is a time for you to also reach out to people, not push them away because they might be hurt.

From what you have described, I would also strongly urge you to see a psyciatrist for depression. Depression is not uncommon when you have chronic diseases - especially something like PSC. There are some great medications now for depression, so there is no need to suffer needlessly. It will be much harder to deal well with PSC & UC when you are depressed. With time, you will almost certainly get over the shock of the illness. It will be a part of who you are, but hopefully not the total focus of your life.

It's also important to plan fun things in your life - both big and small things (movies, trips, sports, etc.). It helps to plan things that will take your mind off your troubles. Whatever you enjoy doing, you must make time for those things. I've heard massages on a regular basis are also good (if I felt I could afford them on a regular basis, I'd do that). I'm sure others will have other suggestions. Please stay in touch and let us know how you are doing. You can definitely come to this group for support. It's a great group of people.

Marie
