TREATING THE BIOLOGY OF AUTISM

World leaders in autism research will explain why and how biological

issues may have an impact on the physical, behavioral and cognitive

health of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), (PDD-NOS,

Asperger's Syndrome, Tourette's Syndrome), as well as ADHD and other

neurological disorders. Attendees will also learn what treatments are

available to them now and how to determine whether diet, medical tests

and metal detoxification may be beneficial and how to implement these

interventions.

The presentations are geared towards parents, agency and school

personnel, medical professionals and others dedicated to improving the

quality of life for those with ASD.

DETAILS:

Dorfman, M.S., Developing Nutritional and LifeStyle Strategies to

Address Autism

Information on nutrition, common food intolerances, essential fatty

acids and the role of supplementation will be presented. Ms. Dorfman

is a health program planner and nutritionist with twenty years of

clinical experience. Physicians and other medical professionals refer

cases to her for insight when traditional methods do not attain optimal

results. She is the co-founder of the non-profit organization

Developmental Delay Resources (www.devdelay.org). In addition, she

serves on many national advisory boards and was appointed by the

governor to the land Board of Dietetic Practice.

Boyd E. Haley, Ph.D., Mercury Toxicity as it Relates to Neurological

Damage in Autism Spectrum Disorders

Boyd Haley earned his doctorate in chemistry/biochemistry from

Washington State University and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Yale

University Medical Center. He has been at the University of Kentucky

with joint appointments in these disciplines since 1985, as well as at

the College of Pharmacy. He has served as Chairman and professor of

the Department of Chemistry since 1997. He is a permanent member

of the National Institutes of Health Biomedical Science study section.

He is also involved in current research involving ASD. His research

Woody McGinnis, M.D., Biological Basis of Autism (Saturday), Nutrient

Blockage by Toxins (Sunday)

Dr. McGinnis has been involved professionally in autism since 1995 and

solely on the research and educational aspects in autism since 2001

(www.autism.org/mcginnis.html). A highly respected expert on autism,

he serves on numerous advisory boards. His broad and firm grasp on a

range of spectrum issues make him a popular and frequent lecturer. He

has authored many professional articles. He is involved in current

research involving ASD. His goals include setting a healthy example,

furthering education and research in autism, establishing inexpensive

biological interventions for the poor and having behavioral nutrition

recognized as a specialty.

Aristo Vojdani, Ph.D., The Role of Environmental Factors and dietary

Proteins and Infectious Agents in Autism

Vojdani is the Director at Immunosciences Lab, Inc.

(www.immuno-sci-lab.com) in California. He is a member of the

International Society for Preventive Oncology, the American Association

of Immunologists and the Society of Toxicology, among others. He serves

on several editorial boards as well as being the author of several

published papers. His Ph.D. is in the field of microbiology and

clinical immunology. His expert testimony before US Senate helped

secure the passage of legislation for Gulf War veterans who acquired

neuroimmunological disorders during their service.

Walsh, Ph.D., Metallothionein Deficiency in Autism Spectrum

Disorders

Dr.Walsh, currently serving as chief scientist at HRI Pfeiffer Treatment

Center (www.hriptc.org), has more than thirty years of experience. He

has worked at the University of Michigan Research Institute and Los

Alamos Scientific Laboratory, among others. He founded the Health

Research Institute in 1982 and, subsequently, the Pfeiffer Treatment

Center which has provided individualized nutrient therapy to more than

14,000 patients. He has authored over 200 scientific articles and has

presented at the American Psychiatric Association, the Office of the

Surgeon General and the National Institute of Mental Health.
