About ten days ago, Dr Cohen was the guest speaker at a function hosted

by the Ohio chapter of the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation.

Prior to this function, one of the adults with Mito asked if it would be

possible for Dr. Cohen's lecture to be videocast on the National

Institute of Health's website.

Thanks to the cooperation of Dr Cohen and the Cleveland Clinic, the Ohio

chapter of UMDF, Drs Zullo, Gersche and Mirakho of NIH and two

enthusiatic Mitoldies members, (who did phoning) and Connie (who

did the videotaping) ..... the Mitoldies group is proud to bring all of

you the world over, who were unable to attend the Ohio chapter's

presentation, the lecture by Dr Cohen entitled " Mitochondrial Disease:

Past, Present and Future " .

It is my understanding that the Ohio chapter presented Dr Cohen as a

free service to their members .... but they did have a collection for

donations to UMDF. UMDF has embarked upon a very important and

ambitious project in which they are going to fund mitochondrial research

over a 5 year time span at an estimated cost of $500,000.00. You can

find out all about the Five Year Plan at <umdf.org> and then " Research "

in the green area on the right. It is a very exciting project including

establishing Mitocondrial Research Centres (basic, diagnostic, and

clinical research), Mitochondrial Research Units (collaborative,

multi-centre clinical trials) and an Office of Mitochondrial Medicine at

NIH!

Dr Cohen's presentation was one of Ohio chapter's ways of raising
