Guest guest
Hi Apparently even Dr Lefever cant deny the epidemiological evidence indefinitely. However, this seems to me just the usual XA fudge, where some concessions are apparently made that actually totally undermine the theory, but are used to actually maintain the edifice. The good doc is not averse to advertising his wares in a country where they are not supposed to do it. P. > > > > > > > > > >> Betrayed? Guest guest
Whoa. Yikes. Hope you're kidding. This is not what I meant. For one thing, imo OA fails miserably at effecting moderation in eating. Actually I wasn't referring to OA; I was referring to people who have successfully moderated the extreme behaviors and rituals of anorexia, bulimia and binge-eating. These being supposedly addictive behaviors surrounding a coveted substance, the many who have become able to eat in a moderate manner may represent an opportunity to find data supportive of moderation for other addictions. I mean, if abstinence is the only way to conquer a substance-abuse problem, those of us who act out with and seek comfort in food are just shit-out-of-luck. > >Reply-To: 12-step-freeegroups >To: <12-step-freeegroups> >Subject: Re: Re: oh joy, another troll >Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 01:36:14 -0400 > >Gee. Guest guest
Whew. O.K. Sorry, it's been a long day. Think about it, though. Food being the pesky necessity it is, there can be no " oh she wasn't really serious about stopping/she's in denial and that's why she chose moderation over abstinence " . Of course, within OA there are ways of creating a divisive hierarchy of diet cleanliness regardless ... sigh. Remember that V8 commercial where the person comes in walking leaned over to represent having a diet that's out of whack? When given a V8 juice, he straightens up. IMO XA's message to a bulimic is like giving that guy a wheelchair instead. Forget your own instincts about what your body needs. Forget all of the knowledge you have gained through trial and error. You will NEVER be able to be like the other kids - that ship has sailed. It occurs to me that no matter how enthused one becomes about stopping self-destructive eating behaviors, there's only so far you can get from one before delving into another. So extreme measures mimicking or approximating AA-like abstinence are very risky for someone like me. goodnight all > >Reply-To: 12-step-freeegroups >To: <12-step-freeegroups> >Subject: Re: Re: oh joy, another troll >Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 02:11:17 -0400 > >, OF COURSE I'm kidding ;-) > >--wally > > Re: oh joy, another troll > >> >>Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 01:04:30 -0000 > >> >> > >> >>Hey > >> >> > >> >>I knew a girl in a halfway house as an " overeater " . Guest guest
Gee. If Overeaters Anonymous uses the 12 Steps to effect moderation in eating, why shouldn't the Steps also work to help people moderate their drinking? Wouldn't it be fun to start up Problem Drinkers Anonymous, a 12 Step moderate drinking program? -- wally Re: oh joy, another troll >>Date: Sat, 24 Jun 2000 01:04:30 -0000 >> >>Hey >> >>I knew a girl in a halfway house as an " overeater " . Interesting...it's like people are drawn to *A because a voice inside them says, " I need something to abstain from, I need a sacrifice to make. " > Remember that V8 commercial where the person comes in walking leaned over to represent having a diet that's out of whack? When given a V8 juice, he straightens up. IMO XA's message to a bulimic is like giving that guy a wheelchair instead. This is a great analogy. > Forget your own instincts about what your body needs. Forget all of the knowledge you have gained through trial and error. You will NEVER be able to be like the other kids - that ship has sailed. I frequently have high school dreams, set in my high school, with me doing high school things. Revisiting the issues of conformity that I first confronted at that time. " Conform to the main stream, or conform to *A, there is no in between. " Give me something to conform to, give me something to abstain from. > It occurs to me that no matter how enthused one becomes about stopping self-destructive eating behaviors, there's only so far you can get from one before delving into another. So extreme measures mimicking or approximating AA-like abstinence are very risky for someone like me. Wow, I never thought of it this way before, but you put this into words very well. Guest guest
Fwiw, Dr Lefever said it would be very popular becuase it would be joined by those " in denial " . P. > Gee. Guest guest
Hi Amy I just mean delete their subscription entirely, not set them to " no post " which he does at present. Apparently Fezzie and cowboy-bob have a total ban by egroups themselves, so they may not even be groupers, just professional trolls! Guest guest
Just because he was there doesnt mean he isnt banned Louree - its no easier for egroups to ban anyone than Ken. altho they have to do is go to a net cafe and use hotmail. It's that simple. P. > >Apparently Fezzie and cowboy-bob > > have > > a total ban by egroups themselves, so they may not even be groupers, > > just professional trolls! > > No thats not true.
