Guest guest
Right BHR Surgery on 2nd May 01. Hello gang, hope you are all feeling ok. I am just over 2 weeks post op now and doing great. NO HIP PAIN AT ALL. I had my staples taken out last Tuesday, exactly 2 weeks after the surgery. The scar is 12 inches long. I am doing very well and things are just great. I started physiotherapy today. They were very easy on me just doing stretching and muscle building exercises and I felt I could do a lot more. The physio said that things have to be taken slowly for the first six weeks after surgery, to let the muscles around the hip heal a bit. Then more intensive therapy can begin. I am too eager to get on with things I suppose. My op side foot is still very swollen, but they said that it was nothing to worry about. I can potter about without the crutches in the house, but the physio said that I shouldn't just yet. Don't think I will be on them much longer though. I am having trouble sleeping in bed. I keep trying to lay on my side all the time, so I gave up and have been sleeping in my reclining chair. I will have to give the bed another go though. Overall, I am very pleased with my progress. I seem to be recovering pretty quickly. Take care all and cheerio for now, Gaz
Guest guest
Hi , It is great to hear that you are doing so well. I think that the gas depends on what you eat There are some things that produce more that others. In the beginning I found that there were a lot of things that made me feel very bloated but I gradually got over it and started to chose my food a little more carefully. Guest guest
Hi my name is I live in Sacramento Calif. I started my journey in June 2002 by August 2,2002 I had my Orenation and In October of 2002 I had my pre op. apt. with Dr. Umbach. He said I had to loose 17 to 27 lbs. I wasn't ready for surgery I told him I needed more time to do more research on the whole thing. He told me to give him a call when I was ready so in January of 2003 I called him back and said I was ready. I joined the gym and was going everyday, I stopped eating bread, rice, pasta, fast food and sodas, I had lost 40 lbs. before my surgery. So he gave me a surgery date of February 12,2003. It was on a Wednesday and I was home by Saturday. I had a great friend take me to SSF. on 2-11-03 she stayed at Days Inn next door entire time I was in the hospital. My DH brought up my son up on Friday and took the two out to dinner and he went home leaving my son with my friend who took care of him so the two of them could take me home on Saturday. Of course we had to stop at IKEA and go shopping on the way home, after all I needed my walking exercise. :~). If I had to do this all over again the answer during my recovery would have been NO and now that I feel no more pain and I feel GREAT the answer would be YES. Now for you all who have had the surgery I have an embarrassing question. Do you seem to pass a lot of gas since your surgery? 392/352/300 (and going strong.) RevenStampin' Up! Guest guest
Romona, It doesn't matter what I eat or it's everything I eat. The gas just comes out whenever it wants at the most worst times, and there's no warning when it's to happen. How embarrassing. 2/12/03 392/352/300/? RevenStampin' Up! Guest guest
Hi There was a post from Pat a while back #993 of something you can take for your problem. Ramona For those who might not know....Devrom is a miracle drug for us --- it was started as an internal deodorant for people who had to have the "bags" after intestinal surgery (I can't remember what that is called) But it works wonderfully for our stinky gas. You can get free samples by going to the website at www.parthenoninc.com ...personally I prefer the chewable tablets, and take them DAILY when I am working in the public!! Guest guest
Hi , Congratulations on being on the other side and for you success. Life will only get better as you gain more mobility and are able to do the things you have always wanted to do. I had my surgery in Dec. 2001 and have lost 175 lbs. and feel great. But...gas has been a problem for me from the beginning. I have tried many things to combat it and nothing seems to work completely. I have tried anti gas medication and even tried Devrom, which is an internal deodorant. That works to keep the odor at bay. Different foods can affect it as well. I completely have to avoid dairy products and high fat or greasy foods, that is a major trigger for me. Carbs can also have a detrimental effect. Unfortunately it is one of the side effects of the surgery. It can be embarassing and I have learned a few tricks to minimize that. If I feel something coming on, I sit down to stop it. When I get up from my chair in my office, I wait several seconds to "clear the pipes" before I start walking down the hall. I also notice that it gets worse right before I need to have a bowel movement. I can sometimes "squeeze" up and hold it til I get to a more socially acceptable place but that doesn't always work so then I just go on with what I was doing and disregard. Friends and family are much more forgiving, even though sometimes I think I may be peeling the paint off the walls! It is one of the results of our new insides for some of us that we have to learn how to deal with. If you want more information about the Devrom, let me know. Hugs, Pat B.
