Geeta,

The wedding pictures have left me with a hundred questions. First, I will tell you that your son is a very pretty (yes, pretty) boy. His bride is beautiful. The wedding clothes were stunning. I especially liked the family photo with all the different vibrant colors. Makes our American wedding clothes look pale by comparison.

Questions now. I assume the drawings on the bride's hands and feet were temporary. What is the significance and how long does that take? Was the marriage arranged? Do your children live in India, too? Were the family the only guests at the wedding and reception? Do marriages always have to be approved by both families? Are interracial and mixed religious marriages frowned upon in your country?

My daughter worked with and went to graduate school with a young man from India. They became the best of friends. He went back to India to marry his bride that had been chosen for him by his parents. He brought her back to America where he is working. I met him and his wife when my twin grandbabies were born. He brought my daughter a wall hanging back from India. A huge beautiful handmade glistening wall hanging. She decorated her entire bedroom around it. The colors are breathtaking.

I loved the photos. I am so glad you were well enough to be there. I find that when I am excited at a time such as this that adrenaline flows and makes me feel better. Later, I crash.

Thanks for posting these photos for us. Now, I am so curious that I will do some reading.

Rest up, now and continue your fight against this hideous disease.

Hugs, Joyce D.

Hi Geeta, What a lovely lovely family you have. The Bride and Groom

are just beautiful.

Like Joyce, I love the colors. I too would like to know about the

henna. I know I have read about it but

I just can't remember. Thank You so much for a look at your life.

Awesome pics. I want some henna tats and a beautiful sari right

now! Oh ya and some awesome indian food too! It keeps getting

better each year around here, but I still miss California for all

the really authentic ethnics foods. Cali has a little bit of

everybody and I miss that. Haven't found a good Indian restaurant

around here.

HI JOyce!

how are you?i hope this new treatment gives you relief, what exactly

is it meant for ? i think i missed that.you are going through a tough

time in such a graceful manner, I admire your patience and attitude.

Thank you for your compliments on the wedding pics i dont know how

happy Paddy will be to be called " pretty " :)

yes our clothes are always rather clorful, while i do find western

clothes so comfortable , and your formal clothes very elegant

the drawings on the brides hands are called 'mehendi' or Henna',

infact all ladies apply henna during weddings , i too had applied tho

the designs were simpler.mehendi leaves are ground to a fine paste and

stuffed in cones, just like ice cream cones and experts apply designs

directly on hands or legs usually on the palms.this is left to dry and

later washed off,it leaves behind a vibrant red orange color which

stays for a few weeks. it is very soothing and keeps the body cool.It

is considered very auspicious.

both friends and relatives attend the wedding , only relatives are

seen because the relatives were actively participating or helping me

and friends who were fewer in the morning ceremony were part of the

audienc both Paddy and gauri(my dil) had about 200 friends from office

at the reception.

yes ,arranged marriages are the norm here and both families have

to approve tho there are youngsters who break the taboo and run off

to marry on their own but that is certainly not acceptable to the

fly.Ours could be considered a very conservative and orthodox family

but PADDY FELL IN LOVE WITH GAURI WHO WORKS IN HIS OFFICE 'iNFOSYS'

a leading It firm. Intially we were shocked and were in denial but

finally agreed for the happiness of the couple. coming from Paddy it

was asurprise becoz he is very shy and timid. Gauri belongs to adiff.

region , we are from south she is from west, and also to a diff caste

these things make a huge diff, our languages r diff and our food is

also diff.

but now adays food is global and they both speak to each other and us

in english and hindi , tho i can seak 'marathi' which is Gauri's

mother tongue also fluently. what is imp is for them to be happy

together , both are soft- ware engineers.

we live in mumbai while they sre in PUne about 3hrs drive from here

Paddy has his own apartment there.

i have 2 children paddy and daughter Priya, she is in california ,

in san jose, she has a 6 year old daughter who u see in the pics they

had come down for the wedding. my husband works asn consultant engin

hydraulics after his retirement 2 yrs back

we plan to come to the US shortly and wish to meet as many of you

as possible.

I hope i have answered all your q's Joyce

keep well

lots of love
