We are in the process of starting a bid procedure. We will bid every 4 months

now. The first one will go by seniority, with the rule being that you can't bid

for the shift you are currently working. Then from there anyone who gets their

first pick goes to the bottom of the list, giving someone new a chance next time

around. I am curious to see how it will work.

we in San Diego do it by seniority.....we also put in several choices incase

" the " one we want is not available.....we rotate every 4 months.....so that

comes out to 3x a year....during that time, I stay on days for 2 consecutive

shifts then go to swings....we have several people that stay on graves cuz them

simply enjoy them...some of them have more seniority than I and then there are

those that are at the bottom of the pool and get administratively assigned....

Does that help??

We bid for shift and days off every 3 months by seniority. Senior

dispatchers get what they want and evryone else gets whats left.Only requirement

is

that there has to be at least 1 CTO on each shift. New dispatchers must rotate

through every shift during their 1st year AFTER they have completed training.

We have 11 full time and 1 part time. When the trainees are cut loose they

are assigned a shift. Seniority gets their pick of days off and the newbies get

what's left. This ensures that the newbies have worked all 3 core shifts

during their first year of being on their own and also ensures that all the

newbies don't get on the same shift together. Also only 1 newbie per shift.

Hope

this helps

I'm very lucky. I have a select few of senior top notch folks that love

midnights. They hate it when the new folks have to go to mids 'cause it takes a

spot away from them.
