Guest guest
, I agree with your assesment of the "following the pack" deal of the celebs. I heard Bertinellie(sp) who is married to Eddie Van Halen talking about his replacement and how difficult it was for them. I thought...man if you guys would make yourselves more "available " to the public....people like you and I could get in touch with them or their agents and say "hey maybe you need to look at this". She did say that with his job and lifestyle that he would need a "redo" in like ten years. Man if they only knew! Tim
Guest guest
Rick There's a post, yesterday/today, on TH directing people to Dr Mont's new Sinai site and he addresses the metal ions question. Seems a 16 year study following all metal THR patients showed lower than average cancer rates. I don't know of the validity of the study but there have been other short term 'studies' which indicate that metal prostheses don't lead to higher than average rates of cancer. We will all have to wait and see. Arlene
Guest guest
Rick: To answer your question: some people have more money (and/or fame) than brains. This trait is common in the general aviation field where rich guys buy too much airplane that they cannot handle and crash. High performance retractable single engine airplanes are frequently called " doctor killers " . Another thing is that celebs suffer from group-think. They go to celeb docs (recommended by celeb friends) who may be photogenic and are world-class schmoozers, but may not be the " real deal " . Therefore, it is no surprise that celebs behave like most " sheeple " and march single file into the slaughterhouse... it must be the right way... everyone else is headed there... Keep it under your hats everyone. Resurfacing is great and it will last! A future with, current millennium thinking, efficient hip specialist orthopaedic surgeons. Ask me again in 10 years! Guest guest
Tim, If Bertinelli is correct in saying that Eddie VanHalen will need a revision in ten years, then I am SCREWED SCREWED SCREWED!!!... my lifestyle is active enough to blow Eddie's out of the water... geeze, I reasonably certain the guy smokes butts and how active can a smoker get? not very!!! sorry cig smokers... or in speaking of lifestyle, perhaps she's referring to the alchoholism that bummed his hip out in the first place... maybe Eddie is still on the sauce... if she was referring to active lifestyle causing need for revision she's either hitting the bottle herself, or soft as a sneaker... the dude isn't overweight, and it's fairly agreed upon that there is thr technology out there that can outlast ten years... Schmalzreid had one question for me when he said my hips were too beat for resurfacing... " what is the main reason you want resurfacing? " ... of course I replied, " prosthetic durability/longevity " ... he said bilateral metal/metal thr with 36 mm femoral heads are my best option... I'm fairly small framed, 5'9 " 155lbs, I'm not sure, but think my 36 mm heads aren't all that smaller than a resurface would be... a few years back, I think the standard was 22 cm with poly [yucko] cups... anyway, I read that Eddie will need the other hip done soon... if anyone knows him, do give a call... hehe... otherwise, he's gonna be twice as pissed-off when he discovers resurfacing, after the fact... good night everyone, Rick >From: T850@... >Reply-To: surfacehippy >To: surfacehippy >Subject: Re: Re: Van Halen, , Popper... >Date: Thu, 19 Jul 2001 14:34:43 EDT > >, > She did say that with his job and lifestyle that he >would need a " redo " in like ten years. Guest guest
Hi : Hope you're recovering nicely. Just curious, why did you respond to Rick by saying " A thr will work a whole lot better [than a resurfacing] on someone your size. " What is particular about Ricks frame size that you believe favors a THR over a resurfacing? Am I missing something here? Thanks. Larry > > Rick > > I think the stem is called the s-rom and Dr. S told me that he could > give me resurfacing equivalent range of motion with this thr and I'm > 6'4 " 315lbs. He feels that the THR gives him more flexibility in > getting the best fit possible. I'm pretty sure he designed the stem. . . . A thr will work a whole lot better on someone your size. What I said that a THR works better on someone with a small build. The history of THR shows poorer results for large people.
