Regarding how to find an SSI attorney, I asked people who were already

receiving SSI, looked in the phone book, looked on the Internet and tried

Legal Aid. No help from Legal Aid, they said that I had already qualified

for SSD (the first I had heard of it) and would have to use that money to

pay a lawyer. Well, I wasn't awarded any money from SSD, just repayment to

the County for my hospitalization. But you might want to try them anyway,

everyone's case is different. I was turned down by a couple of lawyers over

the phone, but the one who ended up taking my case turned out to be the same

one that everyone I asked about SSI had recommended. And I even like his

warm, avuncular manner. So if you know anyone else in your area who has

already gone through this, ask them. You might even seek out recommendations

from people you don't know. Support groups are probably a good place to find

people who have begun receiving SSI or are in the process of applying for it

like you. Even the guy you see sitting at the coffee shop all day long

reading the newspaper might know. Ignore his paranoid rants about the

government and conspiracy theories (lots of people get SSI because of mental

disorders, but they're still good, helpful people).

Of course if he tells you his lawyer is vacationing on Mars this week you're

out of luck, although you still might be able to get his business address

here on Earth. :)

The answer to your question about a retainer fee is accurate, you do not

have to pay one. Good luck!

Dehydration is a common problem. I even thought that dehydration caused some

attacks but I don't think that's really true, it just comes with the

territory at no extra charge. The weight loss is some muscle, a lot of fat

and a big part of fat is water. Without the fat, you have little reserves of

water thus a small condition of dehydration is usually amplified.

Experimentally sources of rehydrating oneself just takes time and creativity.

Tea works, flavored teas, sports drinks, nonalcoholic beer, watermelon, et

al. Generally you just must find what works best for you by trial and error.

But sometimes it don't even work two days in a row. Just hang in there and

keep trying. This practice keeps you busy and thus blunts the episodes.

celeste, and jerry

i usually become dehydrated when the atacks are server for me. my attacks

have been mild in comparison to what the have been in the past so far this

month. i am glad that jerry is able to keep himself out of the hospital for

now any way. tell him to be careful with the caffine because that can bring

up his tryglycerides and furhter cause an attack to come on. boy I tell ya

the things that wwe have to do in order to stay well. things that he may want

to try are: broths beef or chicken, juice like cran berry, apple, grape,

jello sugar free, italian ice. can find it in the super markets. anything

clear as long as it is sugar free. well I need to get some sleep because i

have an early business meeting. jerry hang in there and email me if you need

Celeste,

I too have dehydration from time to time. I can look at my fingertips and

tell. They're all shriveled up like I've been in the tub too long. I try to

drink, drink, drink at much water as I can stand. Usually this will help

some. Hope Jerry and you are having a better day today.

Dehydration testing, another test is to pinch some skin on the forearm or

thigh and pull it up sharply and then let go. If it snaps back you are OK on

fluids, if it results in a little mound for a very short while then you

better have some fluid. This is an old Vet test to see if Fluffy or Bowser

needs some water; but, it works on people too.
