Guest guest
You will be just fine. I remember when I went into surgery in June 86 and figured well if God wants me to stick around, I will be here when I wake up and if not then I will be in a better place than here on earth so either way I will end up a winner. well after 17 plus years I am still here now almost 65 years old. Without the surgery I would have been gone years ago. though I have some wls related health problems I would not hesitate for a minute doing the same thing all over again. I have outlived all the male predecessors in my family thanks to my gastric bypass which now has been greatly improved from the one I had in 86. Our prayers and hopes for a very healthy happy bright future go out to you from me and I am sure the rest of this large group. hugs and God Bless, Mike wls: bilio pancreatic bypass (open RNY) 6/86 Mike Berkwit Jeanine Berkwit 327/195 was 6' tall now little shorter 5' 10.5 " KY7U W6KRO due to some mild osteoporosis. wt fluctuates Mike Mail: ky7u@... 5 or 10 lbs. either way for years. very easy to Jeanine Mail: jeanineb@... take it of now without any serious dieting Our Web Site: http://www.citlink.net/~ky7u Tomorrow is my day! Guest guest
, as a veteran of the wls of 17 years, I’m curious about a few things. Would you mind expounding on your lifestyle for us please? Like what is the difficulty that you still have due to the surgery? And what is an average day of eating like for you? You’ve done so good about keeping the weight off. What hints can you give to help us do the same? Charlotte Pre-op (tomistic) Re: Digest Number 1179 You will be just fine. Guest guest
Thanks for answering so quickly. After you eat a normal meal, is your appetite satisfied? Is it still easy to be tempted to eat too much? Thanks again, and I’m glad you’ve gotten your blood count and calcium under control. Charlotte Pre-op (tomistic) Re: Digest Number 1179 Hi Charlotte. My biggest problems have not been keeping weight off but on going anemia which caused severe edema in my feet and legs and feet are shot now as result of that. Food wise, I eat normal size meals and the only thing I cant eat is broccoli in any form. guess it is because of it being gassy but it gives me terrible abdominal pain so I avoid it completely whether raw or cooked. funny I can eat cauliflower raw or cooked and cabbage doesn't bother me either. my operation is different than the one they are doing these days in that the pouch was the size of a small Styrofoam coffee cup and it stretches in time so that I can eat normal size meals now. the secret with my type of surgery is that the only absorption area that is left of small intestine is 18 inches. while this helps keep weight down it also contributes to my anemia problems. my red blood count was so low they had to put me on procrit to bring it up a few months ago. it made a big difference. my redblood count and hemoglobin are in normal range now for first time in years and my calcium absorption is in normal range which has been below normal most of the postop years. I have a lot of muscle pain and some bone pain mostly in my arms but the procrit is helping that also. the present wls surgery does not require near the amount of supplements that I have had to take all these years and continue to take. my main success from the surgery was that my diabetes went away within first month postop. it wasnt bad enough to require insulin yet but was on oral pills for several years. I have diabetes on both sides of my family going back a few generations so the handwriting was on the wall and my Dad died at 49 from heart condition made worse by the diabetes and he was one of these macho dudes that refused to take the insulin and it ended up greatly shortening his life. I was 13 when he died and I was determined that I would not let that happen to me so I have no regrets for having the surgery and wud do it again if I had to. Good luck Mike
