Guest guest Posted November 17, 2003 Report Share Posted November 17, 2003 Hi david Well I was a healthy sporty girl and was put on cyclomicine same as minomicine and then started experiecing upper abdominal pain so I took my self off and after 4 months of testing the docs said I have PSC. They also say the drug brought out the PSC or fustrated it and that is why it came out. I will be having a liver biopsy in 2 weeks. So does your son have colangitis attacks? hope all is well with your son Terri (14) South Africa Hi Terri Hi Terri;I've been reading your posts about your diagnosis. I'm so sorry you have been diagnosed with PSC, but really glad that you found this group. I admire your courage and strength.My son, , had just turned 18 when he was diagnosed with PSC. He has basically had no symptoms except for elevated serum liver enzymes (alanine amino transferase, aspartate aminotransferase, alkaline phosphatase and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase) suggesting a liver [and specifically a bile-duct] problem. This was found by his dermatologist in the course of a background liver function test BEFORE being placed on medication for acne!This summer had many other blood tests to rule out viral hepatitis and other possibilities, an ultrasound, liver biopsy, and ERCP. The ERCP showed PSC and the biopsy eventually resulted in a diagnosis of Stage II PSC. He was put on Ursodiol and since then his serum liver enzyme levels have fallen back to near normal. had a colonoscopy this summer and was also found to have ulcerative colitis. So he was placed on Asacol, and since then has started to put on some weight (probably 5 or 6 lbs). At the same time he was prescribed minocycline for his acne. He has had no side effects from the medication. We are keeping our fingers crossed that he remains without symptoms. He went off to college this fall and has been enjoying this new experience. I wish you all the best with your biopsy. When my son had one it was over very quickly, and most of the time was spent relaxing/sleeping after the procedure. has not yet had any cholangitis attacks ... I recall about one year ago he had a bout of vomiting with a low grade fever, but we just thought this may have been a stomach flu.
