Guest guest
Yup. In my case, I think the trauma of surgery (if you haven't seen of video of a resurfacing, believe me you get worked over pretty well) coupled with a lack of mobility post-op to promote healing made it all smart like the dickens. The more limited you were before surgery, the more it hurts after I think. Best thing to do is walk to strength things when you can and once the all clear is given, go to the pool and try to move everything around (a little zero-g PT is a really good thing). FWIW this will be largely past in a couple of months. Unlike pre-op, you function anatomically correctly now, so rehabbing it consists of moving normally, which you'll find is addictive in its novelty. Good Luck! -- J >I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op w/C2k. Guest guest
Cate, funny you mention " thunkings " ; I sometimes feel a small " thunk " too. Almost feels like something is moving around a little. No, I'm not taking anything like Celebrex. Viox was prescribed by an Ortho two years ago when my arthritis was diagnosed, but I was wary, looked it up on the internet and chose not to take it. Who did your surgery? s in Baltimore did mine (C2K). I had spasms before the surgery. I had no real hip pain, so it feels a lot like before. Surgon says it will go away. Thanks for responding. Guest guest
Tom, Are you taking any NSAID like Celebrex? It might help. I'm 2 wks post op c2k & feel small thunkings when I do my PT exercises. My inner groin area is sore/weak, but I only notice it when I'm trying to use those muscles. Otherwise I have no pain. What does the dr. say? Cate On Mon, 12 Nov 2001 20:50:55 EST, surfacehippy wrote: > I'm 3 1/2 weeks post-op w/C2k. Have a lot of pain in my hip flexors, > adductors and quad femoris muscles/tendons. Guest guest
Hi, I spoke to Dr. Gross's surgical nurse, Lee Webb, yesterday & she said thunks & pops occur in some patients, but not others. She said that , who had c2k in June had these things for 3 months, then they went away. I was wary of taking Celebrex because I had developed heartburn after taking Vioxx for about 9 months. Still I decided to try it (Celebrex) for awhile to see if it reduces the soreness I feel in my inner groin. I'm also taking Previcid (a mega-antacid) with it to offset what it might be doing to my stomach. I'll keep my fingers crossed & sit tight for now. I had my c2k with Tom Gross in Columbia, SC on 10/29. He and his staff were excellent - I had a great experience. What is the point of taking these medications?! They are to control inflammation of the joint (whose offending portions have been removed) and do not address the likely problem of muscle/sinew pain. Did your doctor suggest these? You have not stated what hurts. Mine was the groin muscles and the abductors (outside of the thigh). These smarted like the dickens for 6 weeks until I started moving in water, then they subsided until gone in about a week. My pops and clicks are still there when I stretch in earnest -- this is aimed squarely at you, since you dance and plan on it again. I've been practicing my karate kicking to approx. head level, so my stretching has been much more strenuous than others. >I had my c2k with Tom Gross in Columbia, SC on 10/29. Expect discomfort until you can actually do rehab on the muscles and connective tissue involved. Don't rush it though, since you are still largely held together with sutures and if you pop one of these, they might have to open you up to fix it. >Cate > > > > > > >_______________________________________________________ >Send a cool gift with your E-Card >http://www.bluemountain.com/giftcenter/ > > > >

The soreness you feel is muscles that have been stretched, tweaked, etc. from the surgery, and weak ones learning to work again. I can't imagine that an anti-inflammatory is going to do much for that. If you are still taking Coumadin or another blood thinner, you shouldn't be taking anything but Tylenol or whatever else your Dr. recommends (I think I was still taking a bit of Vicodin at two weeks)anyway. Be careful not to overdo your stretching also. Things are still held together with stitches, and you don't want to tear all that fine work apart. Figure on about 6 weeks for the bone to be pretty much healed, and 12 weeks for the joint capsule. Relax and recover friend-you'll be dancing again soon enough ;-). Guest guest
Hi , In the past 2 days the soreness in my inner groin had decreased dramatically. I'm able now to adduct my leg to center after abducting it to about 20 degrees. I will continue to take the Celebrex for awhile because my Dr. advises it, but I am also taking Prevacid to counter whatever mischief it would do to my stomach. I'm not taking Coumadin. Dr. Gross used Fragmen (sp?) and now I take one aspirin every other day. My PT exercises include ankle pumps: quad, glut., & hamstring sets; ab & adduction; & heel slides - all lying down. I sit on the edge of the bed and extend my lower leg for quad strengthening. While standing I contract my hamstrings to draw my heel towards my butt & do " marches " to the front. I'm also adding my own abdominal work, but it's relatively mild. I'm not doing any stretching to speak of; did you do any before 6 weeks? Anyway, thanks for the input; it's good to hear from you!
