Guest guest
Well that certainly solves my - which came first the chicken or the egg. I knew about albumin, but can you explain what protein has to do with ascites? Is that why it’s a good idea to cut back on protein – or – is it because ya’ll have a hard time digesting protein? As always I am confused. Thanks Aubrey for your help. Barb in Texas - Son Ken (29) UC 91 PSC 99 -----Original Message----- From: Caroline & Aubrey Ascites is related to other aspects of how bad the liver disease is and how far it has progressed. That is why it is not used as determinant in some of the scores used to calculate disease severity. Having ascites means that other numbers or signs are going to be worse and will be seen earlier on than ascites. For example both portal hypertension and decreases liver production of albumin and protein have to be present for ascites to form.
