Guest guest
a friend in her first trimester had an amalgam filling break apart the other day. her dentist put in some temporary material and said they had to wait a couple months before doing any work. the dentist told her that the temporary material would not last her entire pregnancy and that she has to get whatever is left of the amalgam removed in a few months to put in a permanent replacement. any suggestions on what she should do? thanks, julie _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. Guest guest
I really don't know. That's bad. I had my amalgam broken while I was breastfeeding. My son got some terrible illness at that time with symptoms of acrodynia. His blood test done 4 months after I stopped breastfeeding still showed mercury and silver above norm. My son got better when I stopped breastfeeding. I think that the broken amalgam was leaking...Why does she need to wait for 2 months? I would take it away now with maximum precautions, may be she needs to find a mercury-free dentist who knows how to do it. But I don't know for sure. Guest guest
Ugh. Gosh, I don't know what she should do exactly, but if it is not causing any/much discomfort without the temp in place, then I would just say skip having them drill away at it until after she has the baby. BUt if it is causing pain, I wonder what is in the temp material-- if it is not " toxic " then could she just get more temp put on it when this one wears away? Keep putting on temp until after she has the baby? Otherwise, I would insist on having oxygen while drilling is done, and then get a composite put in.
