Guest guest
, I'm not an expert but I don't think it would be a good idea. First and foremost, once your liver begins to deteriorate, which may be many years down the road, you will be become undernourished due to your liver's inability to break down foods for vital nutrients. Gastric by-pass will only further limit the process making you even weaker upon tx. Secondly, again, not being an expert, what type of impact will such a surgery have on the transplant surgery later on (scar tissue, etc). Lastly, if you have UC/Crohns, would you be more likely to suffer from acid reflux or similar complications. I seem to recall that Andi mentioned the possibility of those with Chrons suffering from esophageal problems due to the disease. I would think that you would be a greater risk for long-term complications from the surgery than most. Banding may be an option since it is reversible, but not as effective. Just my two cents.
