Hi I'm Jo-I sent the e-mail and went to the conference, my husband stayed home with our kids.

I enjoyed the San Diego Conference. I had done preliminary research on mito using the UMDF website and its links. I introduced myself to Dr Cohen and found him to be a genuine and sincere physician. His handouts were very good, he gave copies of the slides from his presentation, which they said would also be available on the UMDF website in the future. I'm not sure how much they're charging for the tapes. The Saturday panel of Dr DiMauro, Dr Shoffner and DrMunnich was good-they disagree on some points (fresh/vs/frozen muscle biopsies) and it was good to hear their reasoning. On Sunday Dr Cohen, Dr Naviaux and Dr Turnball talked about possible therapies. I learned a bit. My son is also autistic and over the last 6 years I've been to 5 Autism Conferences. I usually find it tough going. I found this mitochondrial conference informative and supportive. I was really struck by how much the doctors truly care. Sometimes I've felt that my son was a little test specimen for some of the doctors he's seen. These guys really care about what they're doing. I traveled from Massachusetts and I worried that it wouldn't be worth it. For me, it definitely was. I can give Cohen's handout to my son's teachers and it will help eveyone dealing with him. The medical papers are specific and may be more helpful. If you'd like to talk, e-mail me privately and I could call you.

, what did you think of the San Diego conference? Did you learn a lot? Were the speakers outstanding? Is it worth it to order the tapes? Virginia, Emma's Mom http://www.umdf.org/support/listpolicy.html

Dear Jo:

I am also in Massachusetts....You could email me privately if you want.....I didn't get your email address when you wrote your last post.

I have mito (Melas) and so does my son. I am 53 and my son is 28....I think my other son has it also, but he is in denial.

I am very glad that you got a lot of information from the San Diego Conference. I wish I could have gone.
