Welcomed the new year in at a gathering of friends and acquaintances off Sherman Circle here in Washington. At midnight heard several shots from a small caliber handgun. How ironic, that in this city where private ownership of handguns has been banned by law for 5 decades, people still " celebrate " the occasion by discharging firearms into the air. Strange to think we're halfway thru the first decade of the 21st century. Seems like just last week everyone was getting geared up for the Y2K event. And I was still with the fire department at Walt Disney World and enjoying all the millennium celebration activities there. All pre-Sept 11, pre Afghanistan and Iraq war.
