Guest guest
The type of drain I had was a -Pratt drain, a long tube with a suction bulb at the end that sits outside the body. Mine was placed on my left, about a hands length below the breast, and just slightly to the left. The suction pulls out excess fluids, clots, etc. in the area, and it's contents should be drained and measured daily. I just had it taken out yesterday, and my husband was shocked to see how long it was. He said it was at least a foot long! We thought it was only a few inches. I'm not sure if all doctors use the same type of drain, or how it would affect your situation with the mesh. Definitely a good question for your surgeon. in CA LAP RNY 07-17-03 Dr. Dat Nguyen > This is the first I have heard of a drain I am a newbie and talk to my > surgon on 8/27/03 to set up a date for the surgery. so I don't look > like a tolded idiot what is the drain for and dose everyone get one I > will be having open bypass because I have mesh around bellie because > of a hernia. Guest guest
I had a -Pratt drain, a long tube with a suction bulb at the end that hangs outside. Mine was right next to my belly button on the right. The suction pulls out extra fluid and has to be emptyed out twicw a day. My surgeon says that he leaves it in 1 week as an extra percaution against a leak..he says that once you get home and moving around if you start to bleed it will show in the bulb and if more then 1/2 full you know to call him. Mine was was removed at my 1 week post op appt. there was 1 stitch holding it and he pulled it out, all 12 " of it!! There was no pain at all, if I wasnt watching him I wouldnt have known it was being moved. Pamela 11/19/02 120 lsb gone!! Guest guest
This is the same type of drain that I had with my surgery. It was pretty gross cleaning it out but didn't hurt at all, just uncomfortable because I couldn't sleep on my side with it in. Re: Drain?
