I hate sound cavalier, but you need more people. Aside from that, you may

want explore a mandatory OT policy. At my agency, we are forced over for all

eight hours of a vacated shift. This eliminates the need to bother people on

their off time and provides management with a deer in the headlights on the

premises when unexpected OT comes up. This would also provide a solution for

your slug of a co-worker.

Hello Cheryl!

I was surprised to read that Jeff City has such a small dispatch center. I

used to live in Sedalia, MO and I always thought of the capital as " the big

city " ! Do you work for a pvt ambulance company or something like that?

Lyn said,

Let's face it - no matter how you solve the OT problem, no one

is going to think it's fair or want it unless they're gonna get paid big

bucks to work it.

I couldn't agree with you more here Lyn! Those people who sit on the

sidelines and watch their co-workers work one OT shift after another without

lending a hand.. and then scramble to get the triple time OT on the holidays

aggravate me to no end. The kicker is that by virtue of their not having taken

OT

throughout the year, the chart shows it as " their turn " when holidays roll

around. AARRGGHH!

I've been fairly lucky regarding OT, having some people that love all they can

get and others that prefer not to do it.

If you have 1 person that basically refuses and others are feeling put out by

it, I would suggest a rotation. List your people, perhaps in oder of seniority,

then, the first mandatory OT would fall to person #1. If there is a COMPELLING

reason why person #1 can't do the OT, proceed down list. Once person #1 has done

their stint of mandatory OT, the next mandatory shift would go to person #2 and

so down the line.

Making the OT mandatory would mean that failure to do so would be subject to

disciplinary action for failure to obey a lawful order.

Good luck, I remember days of 5 to cover 24/7 365, it is not fun

The officiating definitely was awful last night... that goal should have

been disallowed. An awful end to an awesome season. Now we have to wait and

see if Steve Yzerman will be back again.. personally I doubt it. And what to

do about a goal tender....

Oh, yeah! Win or lose, they're still my team, but of course, I thought the

officiating was horrible. I got so nervous, I had to leave the room during

the 3rd period and Ed had to yell and tell me who scored and who got

penalties. And poor Stevie Y...he is my hero. Yes, I guess I am a Wings

fan! Now I guess I can sit back and stay calm for the rest of the playoffs.

I think that people would be amazed at how many agencies still do this.

It's a shame.

I assume this involves some kind of OT. What we do, by contract, is the

person with the most seniority is asked if they want it, the the 2nd most,

down to the least. If everyone says no thanks, the supervisor may assign

someone.
