Guest guest
I'm starting my Christmas list and I need ideas! What do you get for 2 year olds? is a bit easier because she loves pretend and my mom is getting her a doll ... so I'll be getting her baby doll accessories, more crayons, more coloring books, tea party type stuff, maybe some more Little People things (she loves those too). Jordan is the tough one. What do you get a 2 year old autistic child? I already bought an easel for the 2 of them, they'll get that. I want to get a bean bag chair for Jordan ( will get one too or there'll be fights over it, lol). Where do I even find a beanbag chair? I looked in Walmart & they didn't have them. I'm going to get some bathtime toys ... Jordan has a problem with baths so I figure if I get some new toys it will help distract him from the fact he's in the tub. I thought maybe I'd turn here for some suggestions. He likes to climb and tumble, he likes to read books, he likes to jump, he likes to run. That's about the extent of it. I want to expand his horizons, but I also want to be realistic and not purchase toys that he'll never play with. He needs language encouragement. He is very interested in words, so I am trying to encourage reading. Ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!! Guest guest
Debbie, My boys loved magnetic letters. If he likes jumping, you can get a mini trampoline for about $25 at Walmart, KMart or Meijers, or at most sporting goods stores. Books, puzzles, matching gamges (if you can find one with something he would be interested in). How about one of those things where you put the ball in the top of it and it goes around and around on it's way down? Think of things he does when he stims, if he stims, and get toys that make it appropriate. Also, you can get therapy toys on line that would be good for his motor skills and maybe fun for him at the same time. Sue
Guest guest
Debbie - Wanted you to know I read this and will be thinking..... First thing that comes to mind is letters he can manipulate. Like big wooden or foam letters...oh and numbers too! Penny
Guest guest
i would definitely encourage jordan's strength's and interests in words, letters etc - there are alot of great electronic toys - rowan has the v tech alphabet apple which is great. flash cards with words at the bottom of the pictures are great too. i would also consider his weakness i.e. pretend play skills. doll houses, tea sets, pretend food, dishes etc are awesome for encouraging this stuff that doesn't always come easily for our kids. another favourite for rowan is anything musical - keyboards, drums, recorder anything like it. hope this helps! michelle Need Christmas Gift Ideas I'm starting my Christmas list and I need ideas! Guest guest
SORRY - i just broke one of my own rules! i shouldn't have assumed that jordan has poor pretend play skills. i curse others for stereotyping - my apologies! michelle Need Christmas Gift Ideas I'm starting my Christmas list and I need ideas! Guest guest
LOL ... it's fine. He actually has NO pretend play skills. I do intend to get pretend play things, but since I have twins, and *loves* to pretend, I figured we'd make use of what Santa brings her. That left other areas that need addressing (and yes, will play with Jordan's stuff too). My mom has gotten them all kinds of blocks, regular wood ones and the ones with alphabets on them. Plus a doll for , and she's still searching for the " perfect " gift for Jordan (of equal " weight " to 's doll). My MIL is talking about getting them tricycles. Jordan has been riding a bike in PT and just loves it, he's actually starting to get the idea of peddling. So I am trying to steer her towards a tiny bike rather than a trike for him. Thanks so much for the ideas, Debbie Re: Need Christmas Gift Ideas SORRY - i just broke one of my own rules! i shouldn't have assumed that jordan has poor pretend play skills. i curse others for stereotyping - my apologies! michelle Need Christmas Gift Ideas I'm starting my Christmas list and I need ideas! Guest guest
At two, was enamoured of a VTech lady bug with numbered and coloured buttons on its back that said numbers or colours or sang songs when you pressed them. Unfortunately, that thing was good for about 2 months of play and learning and 2 YEARS of stimming, repetitive play, and perseveration. :-( We've never had ANY luck with toys. EVER.
