Guest guest
Dear Janice I haven't been to the USA, regretfully, though I keep my options open. I knew at least one Methodist Jan in Abeystwyth, where I lived till last November. I used to be a regular family man Churchgoer but my wife preferred the 12steps. Things might have been otherwise. Divorced now and away from the children. I went to Church last Sunday for the first time in a good while -- small Methodist congregration not far from my home here in Cardiff. I don't give up hope that my ex might get her act together one of these days with regard to her " religious " position, but she's drunk so deeply of the cup of the steps that I can't be optimistic. God bless . > >Reply-To: 12-step-freeegroups >To: <12-step-freeegroups> >Subject: Re: methodist >Date: Thu, 11 May 2000 21:47:49 -0400 > >I doubt you've met me - I'm way cross the ocean in Pittsburgh, USA and >never >been to Merry Olde England! Guest guest
Dear Kayleigh -- That's a question I can't answer. I think it was and is chiefly a matter of her own reluctance. There are no Churchgoers I ever met in her AA/NA in-crowd of " professional " counsellors and other hard core stepheads. I've said to her she thinks more of the 12 steps than she does of Jesus Christ and she didn't really like to hear it said, but she's stuck unflinchingly to the " fellowships " through fear, misplaced loyalty, pathological need for certain types of approval, etc. Saw her Tuesday -- with a silver ring on a sandalled toe to match her 12step toyboy -- and loved her too much not to berate her for her taste. Good night Kayleigh, . ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

Guest guest
Dear Mae, " IHS " is, firstly, the first, second, and last letters of the Greek for " Jesus " and, secondly, stands for " In Hoc Signo " , the Latin for " In this sign " , the " battle cry " of Constantine the Great's army when they fought for Rome. Constantine was the first Christian Roman Emperor and said that on the eve of the battle he had had a vision in which an angel showed him the cross and informed him that he would conquer in this sign. There are good authorities that maintain the angel said to Consantine " In this conqueor " , in which case, if the angel was speaking Latin, he/she may have said " In hoc superatis " (though I'm not a confident Latinist and may have contrived a bad translation). Anyway, Constantine won.
