Guest guest
Dear surfers, wannabe surfers, etc. I keep seeing names for various implants. My impression so far is that the Cormet 2000 and the Conserve Plus are approved here. Is that correct? No others? I keep hearing about the Birmingham hip, too. Which implant has the best statistics so far? How does a doctor decide if a particular implant will work or not for a person--though that decision may be a moot one if the choice of implants is limited. Hmmm. Oh, by the way...I finally made an appt for Oct. 3 with Dr. Mont in Baltimore. Anything I should know, other than bringing my X rays and a letter explaining things? Is he easy to talk to? I am deaf, actually, so I am hoping he is amenable to talking carefully and/or writing things down. You all take care! Guenevere

Both are currently in FDA clinical trials, the Cormet having just started, and the Conserve Plus nearly completing Phase II. Neither is approved for use outside of the trials. No others? There are some devices that are approved, but not in common use because they have poly liners that wear out pretty quickly, so I've been told (which is why all the new devices are metal/metal). Haven't a clue what their names are. How does a doctor >decide if a particular implant will work or not for a person--though >that decision may be a moot one if the choice of implants is limited. The choice of resurfacing implants is limited to whichever trial they are in (in the states) and I haven't heard of England using anything but the Birmingham hip. There may be restrictions on THR components as well, but I'm sure they have a greater choice than just one component. > Conserve Plus 5/25/01 and 6/28/
Guest guest
Guenevere: While you're at it, make a second appointment with another resurface doctor so you have a comparison.
