Hi ,

I don't know if the program is for adults but I don't know why it wouldn't be if the person has the diagnosis of some kind of inborn error of metabloism.

I have a very good relationship with Dr. Tein. She is one of the kindest docs I have met and Jill has seen a lot of doctors in her life. Sick Kid's is one of four hospital in North America considered a mito centre. The other three are in the US. I am sure you would get good care at any of the four but it may be less hassle to be treated in Canada. I guess that would depend on the out-of-province policies in your province. Dr. 's lab at Sick Kid's has a world wide reputation for reliable results. I have heard this from Dr. Tein and from other people who are from other countries. They are also doing several mito research projects in his labs. Sick Kid's has a web site. It is www.sickkids.on.ca . It takes a bit of looking around but you may find some useful info. I hope this is helpful.

This isn't but Alison. is a good friend of mine another province away. We are in BC she is in Alberta. We met on an internet support board. We, too, are going to be taking our son to Sick kids in the next few months. Is Dr. Tein at Sick Kids?? I have heard very positive things about Dr. Robinsosn's testing skills also. I am anxiously awaiting getting everything in order to get the ok to go there. It is near impossible to get BC Medical to pay for a trip to a US center unless all Canadian options are exhausted.

I tried to look through some of my mito info to find where I read about the

mito centres but I couldn't find it . I'm sorry but I don't remember the US

centres. Perhaps one of our American friends on the list could jump in and

help us. I think one is in Altanta and one in California. Can anyone confirm

this?

Alison,

Yes Dr. Tein is at Sick Kid's. Good luck getting everything planned for the trip. I hope it all works out well.

Did

anyone else receive a Thank You from the Oprah staff? I looked for

internet group stories on her home page without success. Was there one

and now it's off? I sent a direct email to her and shortly

received the note back-probably a pat message.

I see someone mentioned ish Rite in Atlanta. . . the other centers I

have heard of are the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, where Dr. Cohen

is. And The Mitochondrial and Metabolic Disease Center(MMDC) at the

University of San Diego in San Diego, California.
