Guest guest
I had my hystersocopy with Dr. Indman yesterday and it went very smoothly. The good news is that he found only " minimal " scarring -- one line of scarring at the top of the uterus that was only 1mm deep and there was healthy tissue underneath it. He cut the adhesions and feels that they were so minimal that he does not even need to see me again! The frustration now is why my lining -- the vast majority of which looks healthy -- is not responding to estrogen and is not thicker than 2-3 mm. Dr. Indman said this really is a mystery and that there may not be an answer. He said there is a remote possibility that I have a layer of scarring underneath the healthy tissue but there is no way to check that. So I am turning back to my RE for some explanation other than " it must be scarring. " What is also puzzling to me is that I was able to carry my daughter to term, and I have no knowledge of whether my lining was any thicker when I conceived her almost three years ago. I have had fairly light periods for at least the last six or seven years (I'm 40 now). Does anyone have any ideas about other alternatives to estrogen to thicken the lining? What about taking the IVF type drugs? I am seeing a Chinese herbalist who believes that her herbs can help. Also, has anyone gotten pregnant with as thin a lining? Dr. Indman suggests that as long as the egg can implant, it does not really matter how thick the lining is. The RE's on the other hand, all look for an 8 mm. lining. (poly -- your article on the researchers at Cornell developing an artificial lining that can be implanted is intriguing! Of course it will be years before they can test this with humans) In the mean time, I will do another round of estrogen -- maybe the third cycle is the charm! I highly recommend Dr. Indman (on our A list) to everyone. He is a true professional -- highly skilled with his hands and yet very compassionate and honest. Now the confusing question is where we go from here -- it is amazing to me how far reproductive medicine has gone, and yet there still are some questions that cannot be answered. This group has been a fantastic source of information and I will share with everyone what I learn as my husband and I continue this mysterious and stressful journey. Guest guest
, It is good news to hear that you had minimal scarring. Was this your 3rd operative hysteroscopy? Can you tell me before you were treated (any surgery), you say you had periods but what were they like and how many days did they last? Then again, after your surgery (previous one) did they change at all? Has Dr Indman given you any hormones to take this time round and what was the doseage? Guest guest
, That is great news that your apt with Dr. Indman went smoothly, and that he was able to remove your scarring. I share your frustration regarding the lining issue. I am trying both viagra suppositories and baby aspirin. I have also heard about trying acupuncture, but have not tried this myself yet. Besides that, I don't know what else to do. My previous specialist feels strongly that the quality of the lining is more important than the quantity. I am not sure that I totally agree with this, but he says he has researched and written papers on this theory. The problem is that there seem to be many other factors that go into implantation besides just the size of the lining, and in this day and age the researach still seems minimal. Possibly you fall in that category of being able to have a successful implantation regardless of the lining size? Lori
Guest guest
, Congrats on your hysteroscopy! That is great news about your uterus being open. During my last hysteroscopy Dr. Indman said I had a very thin endometrium too. I saw it…it looked very pale pink, almost white on the screen. I bet it wasn’t more then 1 -3 mm. I never gave it a chance to build up over a few cycles since we went right into IVF. The lining grew to 6 mm and didn’t have a triple line. My RE wasn’t hopeful either because he also likes to see linings over 8 mm. But, I got pregnant with IVF with this lining two times in a row. So, it’s worth a try. I tried Trental, baby aspirin and high dose FSH during the second cycle of IVF, it never got over 6 mm but it was enough. I also did acupuncture (without herbs) during this past cycle. The Trental didn’t do anything because I used it in one cycle and not the other and my lining was the same. Same with the acupuncture, I tried it with one cycle and not with the other and there was no difference. But, ya never know. The biggest contributor to my lining getting as high as 6mm was the FSH drugs with IVF. When you viewed your uterus, did you see a pink lining or pale pink and white? I would increase your estrogen and see if you have a response. I think some of us have gone up to 8 mg per day. FSH drugs increase your estrogen dramatically, much much more then oral estrogen will ever do. These are thoughts for you in the future if your lining doesn’t respond to a higher dose of oral estrogen. Who is your RE? Anyway, congrats and good luck!
